Day 1: Arrive Lilongwe — Transfer to Cape Maclear
Airport pickup in Lilongwe. Scenic 4-hour drive through the central African countryside to Cape Maclear on the southern shores of Lake Malawi. Settle into your beachfront lodge. Welcome drink at sunset on the golden sand beach. Overnight at Lake Malawi.
Day 2: Snorkeling & Island Hopping
Morning boat trip to the islands of Lake Malawi National Park (UNESCO). Snorkel in crystal-clear waters among the famous Lake Malawi cichlids — over 1,000 species in every color imaginable, found nowhere else on Earth. Visit Thumbi Island West. Afternoon kayaking along the lakeshore. Evening sundowners at a beach bar. Overnight at Lake Malawi.
Day 3: Village Life & Dhow Cruise
Morning visit to Chembe village — meet local fishermen, learn traditional net-making, and see how life revolves around the lake. Afternoon sail on a traditional hand-carved dhow to Mumbo Island. Optional scuba diving (PADI courses available) or free-diving in the warm, clear waters. Beach barbecue dinner. Overnight at Lake Malawi.
Day 4: Hiking & Free Time
Morning hike to the viewpoint on Nkhunguni Peak for panoramic views of Lake Malawi, the islands, and the Rift Valley escarpment. Day 5: Depart Lilongwe
