Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Nice
Transfer from Nice Airport. Afternoon: self-guided walk through Vieux Nice and the Cours Saleya flower market. Evening: sunset from Castle Hill then dinner in the old town. Overnight in Nice (3-star hotel, central location).
Day 2: Monaco & Eze by Public Transport
Morning: local bus along the coast to Eze (entry ticket included) — climb through medieval passages to the exotic garden at the summit. Afternoon: bus to Monaco. Visit the Prince’s Palace (entry included), see the changing of the guard, walk through Monte Carlo’s Casino Square, and explore the Oceanographic Museum. Return to Nice by early evening. Dinner at leisure in Nice.
Day 3: Saint-Paul de Vence & Gourdon
Morning: visit Saint-Paul de Vence, the most famous of the perched villages and the Riviera’s most significant artists’ colony since the 1920s. Picasso, Matisse, Chagall (who is buried in the village cemetery), and Calder all spent time here. Visit the Fondation Maeght, a stunning modern art museum in a building designed by Josep Lluis Sert, with a Miro labyrinth and Giacometti courtyard. Afternoon: Gourdon, a village perched 760m above the Loup Valley with sweeping views of the Riviera. Visit the medieval castle and its extraordinary 17th-century French formal gardens. Overnight in Nice.
Day 4: Cap Ferrat & Villefranche-sur-Mer
Morning: St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the most exclusive peninsula on the Riviera. Walk the coastal path (sentier du littoral) around the cape — 4.8km of turquoise coves, billionaires’ mansions, and pines bending toward the sea. Visit the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild (included), a pink palazzo built 1905-1912 by Beatrice de Rothschild with nine themed gardens (Spanish, Florentine, Japanese, Exotic, Stone, Rose, French, Provencal, and Sèvres) — the musical fountain show at 11am and 3pm is magical. Afternoon: Villefranche-sur-Mer, a 16th-century citadel town with the deepest natural harbor in the Mediterranean and one of the most photogenic waterfronts on the coast. Optional: swim at Plage des Marinieres. Farewell dinner at a waterfront restaurant.
Day 5: Nice Morning & Depart
Final morning — explore the Liberation Market (Nice’s best food market) for last-minute Provencal treats, or visit the Matisse Museum. Transfer to Nice Airport.
