Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive São Vicente — Ferry to Santo Antão
Arrive at Mindelo, immediate ferry to Santo Antão. Settle into your guesthouse in Ribeira Grande. Evening orientation walk.
Day 2-3: Cova Crater & Paul Valley Trek
Two days of trekking through Cape Verde’s most celebrated hiking route. Start at the Cova crater rim (1,170m), descend through pine forest into Paul Valley — a world of impossibly green terraced hillsides where every inch is cultivated. Pass through small hamlets, meet farmers tending sugarcane and coffee, sample grogue straight from the still.
Day 4-5: Ribeira Grande Valley Exploration
Explore the Ribeira Grande valley, the breadbasket of Santo Antão. Hike to remote villages accessible only by foot. Visit Pico da Cruz for panoramic views. Walk through pine forests and along cobbled paths built by Portuguese colonists centuries ago.
Day 6: Northern Coastal Trail
The most dramatic hiking day: the coastal trail from Ponta do Sol to Cruzinha along the Atlantic cliffs. Each turn reveals a new cove, a new fishing village, and the endless blue of the Atlantic. Lunch in a seaside village.
Day 7: Return Ferry & Mindelo
Morning ferry back to São Vicente. Afternoon exploration of Mindelo — market, Cesária Évora museum, and a cold beer on the waterfront. Farewell dinner with live morna music.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to airport.
