Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Chisinau
Airport transfer. Afternoon: orientation walk through Chisinau — Stefan cel Mare Boulevard, the Triumphal Arch, the Cathedral Park, and the Parliament. Welcome dinner with Moldovan wine. Overnight in Chisinau.
Day 2: Chisinau City & Cricova Wine City
Morning: Chisinau city tour — the National Museum of History (excellent exhibits from the Cucuteni-Trypillia culture to WWII), the Pushkin Museum (the poet’s exile house, 1820-23), and the Central Market. Afternoon: Cricova Winery — ride electric trains through 120km of underground galleries, visit the National Wine Collection (1.3M bottles), and taste 4 wines in the underground city.
Day 3: Transnistria Day Trip
Full-day excursion to Transnistria — Tiraspol’s Lenin statues and Soviet monuments, Bender Fortress (16th-century Ottoman citadel on the Dniester), and Chitcani Monastery (15th century, active Orthodox community with valley views). Taste KVINT brandy at the legendary distillery. Return to Chisinau.
Day 4: Orheiul Vechi, Purcari & Et Cetera Wineries
Morning: Orheiul Vechi cave monastery (15th century) carved into limestone cliffs. Afternoon: Purcari Winery (Queen’s wine since 1827) and family-run Et Cetera Winery for barrel tastings. Lunch at an agro-pension in Butuceni village.
Day 5: Milestii Mici, Asconi & Castle Mimi
Morning: Milestii Mici — Guinness World Record wine collection (2 million bottles, 55km cellars). Afternoon: Asconi Winery (modern Italian-French technology meets Moldovan grapes). End the day at Castle Mimi — a stunning restored 19th-century chateau, one of Europe’s most beautiful wineries, with wine tasting in the castle gardens.
Day 6: Soroca & the North
Day trip to northern Moldova. Visit Soroca Fortress — a perfectly preserved 15th-century circular stone fortress built by Stephen the Great on the Dniester River, one of Moldova’s most important medieval monuments. Explore Soroca’s “Gypsy Hill” — an extraordinary neighborhood of extravagant Roma mansions styled as miniature versions of the US Capitol, St. Basil’s Cathedral, and Bollywood palaces. Lunch at a riverside restaurant. Return to Chisinau. Farewell dinner.
