Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Dakar — Premium Welcome
VIP airport transfer to Novotel Dakar or Hotel Royam. Afternoon introduction to Senegalese culture with a private guide — music, art, and the philosophy of teranga. Welcome dinner at a top Dakar restaurant. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 2: Goree Island — A Journey Through History
Private guided tour of Goree Island with a historian. Deep exploration of the House of Slaves, the Historical Museum, and the Women’s Museum. Meet local artists in their studios. Lunch at a beachfront restaurant on the island. Return to Dakar for an evening of Senegalese music — mbalax rhythms at a live venue.
Day 3: Lac Rose & Fulani Village
Visit Lac Rose, walk with salt harvesters, and experience floating in the hyper-saline water. Continue to a traditional Fulani village to learn about the pastoral life of one of West Africa’s largest ethnic groups. Participate in a traditional tea ceremony (ataaya). Afternoon return to Dakar.
Day 4: Touba & Kaolack
Journey to Touba, the holy city of Mouridism. Visit the library of Sheikh Amadou Bamba, containing thousands of manuscripts. Continue to Kaolack, a major trading center. Visit the bustling covered market, one of the largest in West Africa, dealing in salt, peanuts, and textiles. Overnight in Kaolack.
Day 5: Saloum Delta & Serer Villages
Enter the UNESCO Saloum Delta. Pirogue (traditional canoe) through mangrove-lined channels. Visit Serer villages built on mounds of ancient shells (some dating back 2,000 years). Lunch of fresh seafood on a remote island. Afternoon at Fadiouth, an entire island made of clamshells and connected by wooden bridges. Return to Dakar.
Day 6: Depart Dakar
Morning at Soumbedioune craft market for last-minute artisan shopping. Transfer to airport.
