Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Manaus — The Amazonian Capital

Arrive in Manaus. Afternoon city tour: the Teatro Amazonas (1896), the Adolpho Lisboa Municipal Market (with its stunning cast-iron architecture from 1883), and the Rio Negro Palace. Visit the INPA Bosque da Ciência, a research forest where rescued manatees and giant river otters can be observed. Welcome dinner featuring tambaqui ribs and piranha soup — Amazonian haute cuisine. Overnight at a boutique hotel in Manaus.

Day 2: Meeting of Waters + Jungle Lodge Arrival

Morning speedboat to the Meeting of the Waters. Spend time observing this natural wonder — the temperature difference between the two rivers (the Rio Negro is 28°C, the Solimões 22°C) is immediately noticeable. Continue past the Anavilhanas Archipelago to your jungle lodge, located in a pristine area far from any settlement. Afternoon: canoe through the igapó (flooded forest), navigating between enormous trees with their roots underwater. Evening: caiman spotting by torchlight — your guide handles these ancient reptiles with practiced ease.

Day 3: Full Day Rainforest Immersion

Dawn boat for birdwatching — toucans, macaws, parrots, kingfishers, and the prehistoric-looking hoatzin. After breakfast, a 4-hour jungle trek into primary rainforest. Your guide shows you the complex web of Amazonian ecology: the towering Brazil nut tree (which can only be pollinated by a specific orchid bee), the walking palm tree (Socratea exorrhiza) that actually “walks” up to 1m per year, and the lethal curare vine used for blowgun darts. Lunch in the forest. Afternoon: piranha fishing and swimming with pink dolphins. Night walk to spot tarantulas, scorpions, and tree frogs.

Day 4: Presidente Figueiredo — Land of Waterfalls

Morning transfer to Presidente Figueiredo, known as the “Land of Waterfalls” (107 km north of Manaus). This area sits on the Guiana Shield, one of Earth’s oldest geological formations. Visit the Iracema Waterfall (12m high with a natural pool ideal for swimming) and the Santuário Waterfall, a more remote cascade accessed via a jungle trail. Picnic lunch by the falls. Afternoon visit to the Caverna do Maroaga, a sandstone cave system with underground chambers and a small waterfall inside. Return to the lodge for the night.

Day 5: Indigenous Communities & Cultural Exchange

Full day dedicated to cultural immersion. Visit two distinct communities: a riverside caboclo village where traditional rubber tapping and Brazil nut gathering are demonstrated, and an indigenous Sateré-Mawé settlement (one of the few tribes that resisted colonization successfully). Participate in the Sateré-Mawé ritual of the Tucandeira ant glove ceremony (optional and ceremonial, you can observe without participating). Learn about their traditional medicine, cosmology, and art. Share a meal prepared in the traditional way — fish cooked in banana leaves over an open fire.

Day 6: Canopy Walkway & River Exploration

Morning visit to the MUSA (Museum of the Amazon) canopy tower — a 42m observation tower rising above the treetops. From the top, the rainforest stretches in every direction like a green ocean. Observe canopy wildlife: monkeys, toucans, and the occasional harpy eagle. Afternoon: a final canoe expedition into the most remote accessible creek, looking for river otters, capybaras, and the elusive jaguar (your guide knows the best spots). Farewell dinner at the lodge with live Amazonian music.

Day 7: Sunrise & Departure

Final dawn canoe — the Amazon at sunrise is a spiritual experience. After breakfast, transfer back to Manaus. Visit the Mercado Municipal for last souvenirs: Amazonian handicrafts, regional foods, and the famous cupuaçu butter cosmetics. Transfer to airport. You’ve experienced the Amazon in 360 degrees — from the river to the canopy, from ancient cultures to its wild heart.
