Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Luxembourg Moselle — Schengen to Remich

Your journey begins in Luxembourg City with a scenic drive along the Moselle River, which forms the natural border between Luxembourg and Germany. First stop: the village of Schengen, where the landmark 1985 Schengen Agreement was signed aboard the MS Princesse Marie-Astrid. Visit the European Museum Schengen to understand how this small Luxembourg wine village changed European history forever. Continue to the Domaine Henri Ruppert in Schengen for your first tasting of Luxembourg’s distinctive wines, including the crisp, mineral Elbling and the refined Auxerrois. Lunch at a river-view restaurant in Remich, known as the Pearl of the Moselle. Afternoon wine tasting at Caves St. Martin, one of Luxembourg’s most prestigious cremant producers, where you sample award-winning sparkling wines produced in traditional Champagne method in underground cellars carved into limestone cliffs. Check into your elegant hotel overlooking the Moselle. Welcome dinner at a gourmet restaurant pairing Luxembourg wines with seasonal cuisine.

Day 2: Luxembourg Wine Route — Wormeldange to Grevenmacher

Explore the heart of the Luxembourg Moselle wine region. Morning visit to Domaines Vinsmoselle in Wormeldange, the largest wine producer in Luxembourg and a cooperative dating back to 1921. Participate in a guided vineyard walk through the steep, slate-soil slopes that give Luxembourg wines their distinctive minerality, followed by a structured tasting of Riesling, Pinot Gris, and the rare Elbling. Continue to Grevenmacher, one of Luxembourg’s oldest wine towns, for a visit to Bernard-Massard, the country’s leading cremant house established in 1921. Tour the production facility and enjoy a comparative tasting of Luxembourg cremants alongside French Champagnes. Afternoon at leisure to explore Grevenmacher’s butterfly garden and riverside promenade, or take an optional e-bike ride along the Moselle cycle path through vineyard landscapes. Evening transfer across the border to the enchanting German wine village of Bernkastel-Kues, with its famous half-timbered houses and medieval market square. Dinner at a traditional weinstube.

Day 3: Bernkastel-Kues & Middle Moselle — Grand Cru Vineyards

The Middle Moselle is the heartland of German Riesling, where the world’s finest expressions of this noble grape are produced on some of the steepest vineyards in the world. Morning guided walk through the fabled Bernkasteler Doctor vineyard, one of Germany’s most prestigious grand cru sites, with slopes reaching 60 degrees. Visit the historic Dr. Loosen estate for an exclusive tasting of their renowned Rieslings, from dry Kabinett to luscious Trockenbeerenauslese. After lunch in Bernkastel’s medieval market square, beneath the leaning spire of St. Michael’s Church, continue downstream through the dramatic Moselle gorge. Stop at the world-famous Weingut Markus Molitor in the village of Wehlen for a tasting of their legendary Rieslings, including wines awarded 100 points by international critics. Late afternoon arrival at Cochem, one of the Moselle’s most picturesque towns, dominated by the fairy-tale Reichsburg Castle perched high above the river. Evening wine-pairing dinner at a castle-view restaurant.

Day 4: Cochem — Reichsburg Castle & Terraced Vineyards

Morning guided tour of the magnificent Reichsburg Castle, a stunning example of a medieval hill castle extensively restored in the neo-Gothic style in the 19th century. The castle’s Knight’s Hall, mosaic-adorned rooms, and panoramic terrace offer unparalleled views over the winding Moselle. After the castle visit, embark on a Moselle river cruise, gliding past terraced vineyards clinging impossibly to steep slate slopes, passing under ancient bridges, and watching for the many castles that punctuate every bend of the river. Lunch at a sun-drenched terrace restaurant in the old town. This afternoon offers the opportunity for more wine exploration: visit the historic Bundesbank Bunker, a Cold War-era secret vault hidden beneath Cochem’s vineyards where billions of Deutsche Marks were stored, or enjoy a mustard-making workshop at a historic mustard mill dating to 1810. Farewell dinner at a gourmet restaurant featuring modern interpretations of Moselle classics, with a curated flight of aged Rieslings.

Day 5: Eltz Castle & Return to Luxembourg

After breakfast, a memorable finale: a visit to Burg Eltz, one of Germany’s most beautiful medieval castles, hidden deep in a forested valley and still owned by the same family for over 850 years (33 generations). Take a guided tour through the castle’s lavishly furnished rooms, the Treasury with its collection of gold and silver artifacts, and the atmospheric armory. After the visit, enjoy a farewell lunch at a rustic restaurant in the Eltz Forest. Afternoon transfer back to Luxembourg City, arriving by approximately 4:00 PM, where your tour concludes.
