Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Douala Arrival
Arrive in Douala. Briefing and welcome dinner at a local restaurant serving grilled fish and plantains — Cameroon’s national staples.
Day 2: Douala City & Littoral Province
Explore Douala’s colonial heritage in Bonanjo, the vibrant New Bell neighborhood, and the art scene at Doual’art. Afternoon drive along the coast to see the mangrove ecosystems of the Wouri estuary.
Day 3: Douala to Yaounde
Drive inland to Cameroon’s capital Yaounde. The route passes through equatorial forest and plantation landscapes. Afternoon visit to the National Museum in the former Presidential Palace and the Mvog Betsi Zoo.
Day 4: Yaounde to Yokadouma — Congo Basin Journey
Long drive east through Cameroon’s forest belt to Yokadouma, the last major town before the Congo Basin proper. The landscape transitions from secondary forest to increasingly pristine primary rainforest.
Day 5-7: Lobeke National Park — Gorillas & Forest Elephants
Three days in Lobeke National Park, part of the UNESCO-listed Sangha Trinational. Morning treks to observation platforms overlooking forest clearings where Western lowland gorillas, forest elephants, and bongos gather. Canoe trips on the Sangha River. Evening encounters with Ba’Aka communities who share their traditional forest knowledge.
Day 8: Return to Yaounde
Journey back to the capital. Afternoon free for souvenir shopping at the Artisanat National.
Day 9: Departure
Transfer to Yaounde airport for departure.
