Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Manaus — Gateway to the Amazon

Arrive in Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state. Transfer to your hotel near the port. Afternoon visit to the iconic Teatro Amazonas, the 1896 opera house that symbolizes the rubber boom era’s incredible wealth. Its dome is made of 36,000 enameled ceramic tiles in the colors of the Brazilian flag. Evening walk through the Mercado Municipal, a replica of Paris’s Les Halles, where you can see Amazonian fruits, fish, and herbs. Welcome dinner featuring Amazonian cuisine — tambaqui fish, tucumã palm fruit, and cupuaçu juice.

Day 2: Into the Jungle — Meeting of the Waters

Morning boat departure up the Rio Negro. Witness the spectacular Meeting of the Waters — the dark Rio Negro and lighter Rio Solimões running side by side, a phenomenon caused by differences in temperature, speed, and density. Continue deep into the Anavilhanas Archipelago, one of the world’s largest river archipelagos with over 400 islands. Arrive at your jungle lodge, set in a pristine location accessible only by boat. Afternoon canoe through the flooded forest (igapó), spotting squirrel monkeys, sloths, toucans, and the occasional pink river dolphin. Night expedition to spot caimans.

Day 3: Jungle Survival & Amazonian Knowledge

Full day with your indigenous guide. Morning jungle trek: learn to identify medicinal plants (over 3,000 documented in the Amazon), find drinkable water in jungle vines, build a simple shelter, and make fire without matches. Your guide shares knowledge passed down through generations — which fruits are edible, which vines contain fresh water, which barks cure fevers. Lunch in the jungle cooked over an open fire. Afternoon: learn to use a traditional bow and arrow, try your hand at blowgun shooting, and understand the complex ecosystem around you. Sunset canoe trip — the golden hour on the Rio Negro is unforgettable.

Day 4: Indigenous Village & Cultural Immersion

Motorized canoe voyage upriver to visit an indigenous community. Spend the day learning about their traditions: cassava processing (from harvesting the root to making farinha flour), handicraft weaving from palm fibers, body painting with natural dyes (annatto and genipapo), and traditional music and dance. Share a meal with the community — fresh fish wrapped in banana leaves and roasted over coals, accompanied by beiju (cassava flatbread). Return to the lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Wildlife Safari — Full Day Exploration

Pre-dawn departure for wildlife spotting. Travel to a remote area known for its biodiversity. Canoe silently through narrow creeks looking for giant river otters, spider monkeys, three-toed sloths, and the elusive harpy eagle (the Amazon’s apex predator). Visit a macaw clay lick where hundreds of colorful parrots gather to ingest minerals — a spectacular sight. Afternoon piranha fishing and swimming in a safe section of the river. Final night walk to spot tarantulas, tree frogs, and night monkeys.

Day 6: Sunrise & Return

Dawn canoe for a final glimpse of the rainforest waking up. After breakfast, boat transfer back to Manaus. Visit the INPA (National Institute of Amazonian Research) botanical garden to see rescued manatees and learn about conservation efforts. Transfer to airport. Five nights in the jungle will change your perspective on what’s worth protecting on this planet.
