Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Bishkek — Kyzart Village
Morning transfer from Bishkek to Kyzart village in the Naryn region. Meet your horses and Kyrgyz horseman guide. Brief riding orientation — Kyrgyz horses are small but incredibly sturdy, descended from the mounts that carried Mongol armies. Afternoon: ride through the Kyzart Valley, a gentle introduction to horseback travel. Overnight in Kyzart guesthouse.
Day 2: Kyzart — Kilemche Pasture
Full-day horse trek ascending through the Kilemche Valley. The trail climbs through juniper forests and alpine meadows carpeted in wildflowers. Stop for a picnic lunch by a mountain stream. Arrive at Kilemche jailoo (summer pasture) by late afternoon. Views stretch across rolling grasslands to snow-capped peaks. Set up camp beside a shepherd’s yurt. Evening: help milk mares for kymyz. Overnight in tent or yurt at Kilemche.
Day 3: Kilemche — Song-Kul Lake (3,016m)
The most spectacular day. Ride over a high pass (3,400m) with panoramic views before descending to Song-Kul — the “Last Lake.” The first sight of Song-Kul is unforgettable: a vast blue mirror surrounded by treeless grasslands, dotted with white yurts and herds of horses. Gallop along the lake shore — this is what freedom feels like. Arrive at your yurt camp on the lake shore. Evening: traditional beshbarmak dinner. Watch millions of stars emerge at this high-altitude paradise. Overnight in a Song-Kul yurt.
Day 4: Song-Kul — Kochkor
Morning: one last ride around Song-Kul — visit shepherd families, watch mares being milked for kymyz, photograph the lake in morning light. Say goodbye to your horse. Transfer to Kochkor village. Afternoon: shyrdak felt carpet workshop. Visit the Kochkor Women’s Cooperative where local artisans create these UNESCO-recognized traditional carpets. Farewell dinner with your guide and hosts. Overnight in Kochkor guesthouse.
Day 5: Return to Bishkek — Depart
Drive back to Bishkek — about 4 hours. Transfer to Manas Airport for departure.
