Day 1: Arrive Accra, Ghana
Akwaaba! Airport pickup and hotel check-in. Evening orientation walk through Accra’s Osu district. Welcome dinner with Ghanaian jollof rice and grilled tilapia. Meet your fellow travelers and CEO (Chief Experience Officer). Overnight in Accra.
Day 2: Accra — Culture & Craft
Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the WEB Du Bois Center, and Artists Alliance Gallery with three floors of contemporary African art. Afternoon at the Global Mamas batik workshop — learn to make your own batik fabric using traditional techniques. Evening street food tour: waakye, kelewele, and freshly tapped palm wine. Overnight in Accra.
Day 3: Cape Coast Castle & Kakum
Journey to Cape Coast. Visit the UNESCO Cape Coast Castle — the “Door of No Return” dungeon tour is one of the most powerful experiences in Africa. Afternoon canopy walkway at Kakum National Park suspended among the rainforest giants. Overnight at a beach resort near Cape Coast.
Day 4: Elmina & Cross into Togo
Morning at Elmina Castle (1482), the oldest European building in sub-Saharan Africa. Visit the Elmina fishing harbor. Long drive to the Togo border. Arrive in Lomé evening. Overnight in Lomé.
Day 5: Lomé & the Voodoo World
Morning at the Akodessewa Fetish Market — the world’s largest voodoo market. Thousands of ritual objects, animal skulls, and charms used by voodoo practitioners. Visit the Lomé Grand Marché and the Nana Benz story. Afternoon free to explore Lomé’s colonial boulevards. Overnight in Lomé.
Day 6: Ouidah & Cotonou, Benin
Cross into Benin. Full day in Ouidah, the spiritual capital of Vodun. Visit the Python Temple, the Sacred Forest, and the Route des Esclaves ending at the Door of No Return on the beach. Afternoon voodoo ceremony — a genuine ritual with drumming and dancing, not a tourist show. Overnight in Cotonou.
Day 7: Ganvié — The Venice of Africa
Morning boat trip to Ganvié, the largest lake village in Africa — 30,000 people living in bamboo houses on stilts in the middle of Lake Nokoué. Visit the floating market, a school, and a family home. Watch fishermen cast nets from traditional pirogues. Farewell dinner in Cotonou with Beninese music and dance.
Day 8: Depart Cotonou
Morning at the Cotonou Artisanal Centre for last souvenirs. Transfer to airport. Yoo!
