Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Arusha

Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to Arusha. If time permits, visit the Cultural Heritage Centre (largest art gallery in Africa, with Makonde carvings, Tingatinga paintings, and the largest collection of Tanzanite — a gemstone 1,000 times rarer than diamonds, found only in Tanzania near the base of Kilimanjaro). Safari briefing in the evening. Overnight in Arusha.

Day 2: Arusha to Central Serengeti — Into the Wild

Early departure. The drive crosses the Great Rift Valley escarpment with panoramic views, passes through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (brief crater rim stop for photos), and enters the Serengeti at Naabi Hill. Afternoon game drive in Central Serengeti — the Seronera area’s resident wildlife ensures sightings even if the migration is elsewhere. Lions on the kopjes, leopards in the sausage trees, and the massive Serengeti elephant herds (approximately 7,000 elephants in the ecosystem). Overnight in Serengeti tented camp.

Day 3: Full Day Serengeti — Tracking the Migration

Dawn to dusk tracking the Great Migration. In calving season (January-March): the Southern Plains and Ndutu area teem with newborn wildebeest and attendant predators — this is the time for cheetahs (they hunt daily), lion kills on vulnerable calves, and the spectacle of half a million births in a few weeks. In river crossing season (July-October): head north to the Mara River for the dramatic crossings. In the green season (April-May, November-December): the resident wildlife is at its most active, with dramatic skies, lush green landscapes, and fewer vehicles. The Serengeti never disappoints — it’s one of the world’s most productive ecosystems, with an estimated 3,000 lions, 1.5 million wildebeest, and a total large mammal biomass exceeding any ecosystem on Earth. Overnight in Serengeti.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro — Olduvai Gorge

Morning game drive en route from Serengeti to Ngorongoro, with a stop at Olduvai Gorge. Stand at the “Cradle of Mankind” — the exposed strata of the gorge contain tools and fossils spanning 2 million years of human evolution. Arrive at the Ngorongoro Crater rim for the night — the sunset over the caldera, with the crater floor 610m below bathed in golden light, is a safari memory that rivals any wildlife sighting. Overnight at a crater rim lodge.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater — Eden & Departure

Descend into the crater at dawn — this is the crescendo of the safari. The crater’s 260 sq km floor is a microcosm of African wildlife: black rhinos, elephant bulls, lion prides, hyena clans, hippo pools, flamingo-fringed Lake Magadi, and the constant backdrop of the 600m crater walls. Spend 5-6 hours on the crater floor, then ascend for the transfer back to Kilimanjaro Airport. Depart Tanzania in the late evening — five days, two of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations, and memories of raw, untamed Africa that will last a lifetime.
