Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Hong Kong — The Pearl of the Orient
Morning: ride the legendary Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour, one of the world’s great commutes — wooden benches, diesel engines, and the most spectacular skyline view you’ll ever pay $0.50 for. Ascend to Victoria Peak via the Peak Tram, a 120-year-old funicular climbing at a vertigo-inducing 27° angle. From Sky Terrace 428, take in the view that’s defined Hong Kong for a century — skyscrapers, harbor, and mountains in one frame. Afternoon: explore Central’s contrast of gleaming towers and colonial lanes, then cross to Kowloon for the Temple Street Night Market. Overnight in Hong Kong.
Day 2: Macau — Where East Meets West
Turbojet ferry (55 minutes) across the Pearl River Delta to Macau. The Portuguese arrived here in 1557, creating Asia’s first and last European colony — handed back to China in 1999. Start at the Ruins of St. Paul’s, the 17th-century church façade that’s Macau’s icon — only the granite front survived the 1835 fire. Walk the cobblestones of Senado Square, a wave-patterned mosaic plaza surrounded by pastel colonial buildings. Visit the A-Ma Temple (1488), the Taoist shrine that gave Macau its name. Lunch: Macanese cuisine — African chicken (piri-piri meets coconut), minchi (minced meat hash), and the famous egg tarts (pastéis de nata) warm from Lord Stow’s Bakery. Afternoon at Macau Tower for the 233m skywalk option. Evening return to Hong Kong.
