Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Hong Kong — Victoria Harbour by Night
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport. Transfer to your hotel on Kowloon side. Evening: walk the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade for the Symphony of Lights, the world’s largest permanent light-and-sound show. The skyline of Hong Kong Island — one of humanity’s great urban vistas — shimmers across the harbor. Welcome dinner: Cantonese roast goose in Jordan. Overnight in Kowloon.
Day 2: Hong Kong Island — Peak to Aberdeen
Morning: Star Ferry to Central. Take the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak — at 552m, the view encompasses Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the harbor, and on clear days, the green hills of the New Territories and Shenzhen beyond. Walk the Peak Circle Walk. Lunch at Luk Yu Tea House (1933), where the dim sum is still wheeled on trolleys and the Art Deco interior hasn’t changed in 90 years. Afternoon: Aberdeen Fishing Village for a sampan ride through the typhoon shelter, past the famous Jumbo Floating Restaurant. Visit the Man Mo Temple (1847), where giant incense coils hang from the ceiling. Evening: ride the Central-Mid-Levels Escalator, the world’s longest covered escalator system, through SoHo’s nightlife district. Overnight in Kowloon.
Day 3: Lantau Island — Big Buddha & Tai O
Morning: Ngong Ping 360 cable car to Lantau Island, the 5.7km ride offering spectacular views of the airport, sea, and mountains. Visit the Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha), the world’s largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha, reached by 268 steps. Explore the Po Lin Monastery. Afternoon: bus to Tai O, Hong Kong’s last remaining fishing village of stilt houses. The Tanka boat people have lived over the water here for centuries. Walk the narrow lanes, sample shrimp paste (a local specialty), and spot the rare Chinese white dolphins if lucky (Tai O is one of their last habitats). Overnight in Kowloon.
Day 4: Kowloon Markets & Depart
Morning exploration of Kowloon’s legendary markets: the Flower Market, the Bird Garden (where elderly men bring their caged songbirds for “walks”), and the Goldfish Market (Tung Choi Street, where plastic bags of exotic fish hang in shop windows). Visit the Chi Lin Nunnery (1930s, rebuilt in Tang Dynasty style entirely without nails) and its adjacent Nan Lian Garden — a Tang Dynasty garden of extraordinary tranquility hidden among skyscrapers. Afternoon transfer to airport.
