Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Tivat/Dubrovnik — Herceg Novi

Arrive and transfer to Herceg Novi, the “City of Sun” at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. Walk the seaside promenade (Pet Danica) lined with palm trees and mimosa — Herceg Novi is famous for its flowers. Visit the Forte Mare fortress (1382) and the Kanli Kula (Bloody Tower) for sunset views over the bay entrance. Overnight in Herceg Novi.

Days 2-3: Bay of Kotor — Perast, Our Lady of the Rocks & Kotor

Drive around the Bay of Kotor, stopping at Risan’s Roman mosaics (3rd century AD). Boat to Our Lady of the Rocks, then explore Perast. Two nights in Kotor: fortress climb, Old Town exploration, St Tryphon’s Cathedral, Maritime Museum. Optional: Blue Cave speedboat tour on the Lustica Peninsula. Overnight in Kotor (2 nights).

Day 4: Budva & Sveti Stefan

Drive to Budva, one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic (2,500+ years). Budva’s Old Town (Stari Grad) is a miniature walled city perched on a small peninsula — walk its narrow stone alleys to the Citadel for views over the Budva Riviera. Afternoon: visit Sveti Stefan, the iconic 15th-century fortified village on a tiny island connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus — now an exclusive Aman resort, but the public beach on either side is free access. Evening: sunset from the Budva promenade. Overnight in Budva.

Day 5: Bar & Stari Bar — Olive Country

Drive south along the coast to Bar. Visit Stari Bar (Old Bar), a sprawling ruined medieval city abandoned after an 1878 explosion — the roofless stone buildings on the hillside, overgrown with wild pomegranate, are hauntingly beautiful. The aqueduct built by the Ottomans in the 16th century still stands. Visit one of Europe’s oldest olive trees — over 2,200 years old and still producing olives — at Mirovica. Afternoon: relax at Veliki Pijesak (Big Sand) beach, one of Montenegro’s finest. Overnight in Bar.

Day 6: Ulcinj — Where East Meets West

Drive to Ulcinj, Montenegro’s southernmost town and its most exotic — once a haven for Barbary corsairs, the Ottoman and Oriental influences are unmistakable. Explore Ulcinj Old Town perched dramatically on a cliff above the sea. Legend says Miguel de Cervantes was imprisoned here and his character Dulcinea in Don Quixote was inspired by a local girl. Visit the 13-kilometer Velika Plaža (Long Beach), the longest sandy beach on the Adriatic, with fine grey sand that’s famously therapeutic for rheumatism. Afternoon: visit Ada Bojana, a triangular river island where the Bojana River meets the Adriatic — fresh seafood huts on stilts over the river serve catch-of-the-day. Overnight in Ulcinj.

Day 7: Skadar Lake & Wine Country — Return to Podgorica

Morning drive to Skadar Lake. Boat cruise to spot Dalmatian pelicans and pygmy cormorants. Visit the village of Virpazar, the lake’s main gateway. Afternoon: Crmnica wine region tasting — Vranac red wine and Krstač white, with prosciutto from Njeguši. Continue to Podgorica for a brief tour of Montenegro’s capital: the Ribnica River bridge, the Clock Tower, and the modern Cathedral of the Resurrection. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Podgorica.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to Podgorica Airport.
