Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive San Juan — Toro Verde Zip-line
Morning arrival. After settling in, head to Toro Verde Adventure Park in Orocovis, home to “The Monster” — one of the world’s longest zip lines at 7,234 feet, soaring 1,200 feet above the mountain valley. Experience 7 different zip lines and a heart-stopping free fall. Evening return to San Juan. Overnight in San Juan.
Day 2: Vieques — Mosquito Bay Bioluminescence
Morning ferry to Vieques Island. Afternoon: explore the island’s wild horses roaming freely, and snorkel at Playa Caracas. In the evening — the main event: kayak into Mosquito Bay, the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world (Guinness World Record). As your paddle disturbs the water, millions of dinoflagellates (pyrodinium bahamense) glow electric blue. The bay contains up to 720,000 organisms per gallon — a phenomenon that must be seen to be believed. Overnight in Vieques.
Day 3: Vieques to Fajardo — Sunrise to Rainforest
Morning on Vieques: visit the 18th-century Spanish fort, Fortín Conde de Mirasol. Return ferry to the mainland. Afternoon: drive to Fajardo. Visit Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve for a guided tour of the lighthouse, mangroves, and bioluminescent lagoon. Overnight in Fajardo.
Day 4: Culebra & Icacos Cay — Caribbean Snorkeling
Full-day catamaran excursion to the cays off Fajardo’s coast. Anchor at Icacos Cay, a pristine uninhabited island with powdery sand. Snorkel the coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. Continue to Culebra’s Playa Tamarindo for sea turtle encounters. Beach barbecue lunch on board. Evening return to San Juan. Overnight in San Juan.
Day 5: Rincon — Surfing Capital & Sunset
Drive west to Rincón, Puerto Rico’s surfing capital on the Atlantic coast. Morning surf lesson at Domes Beach — named for the nuclear reactor dome visible from the shore (decommissioned). Afternoon: visit the Punta Higüero Lighthouse and walk the seaside promenade. Whale watching in season (January-March) for humpback whales. Dinner at a beachfront restaurant watching the sun set into the ocean — Rincón is famous for its sunsets. Overnight in Rincón.
Day 6: Departure
Return to San Juan. Transfer to airport.
