Day 1: Arrive Ashgabat

Arrive at Ashgabat International Airport. Private transfer to your hotel. Afternoon orientation tour of Ashgabat: walk through Independence Park with its golden statues and elaborate fountains, visit the Wedding Palace — a stunning star-shaped building where newlyweds come for photos, and ride the Ashgabat Cable Car for panoramic views of the marble city against the Kopet Dag Mountains. Welcome dinner at a traditional Turkmen restaurant. Overnight in Ashgabat.

Day 2: Ashgabat — Ancient & Modern

Full-day private tour of the Ashgabat area. Morning: visit the National Museum of Turkmenistan with its 500,000 exhibits spanning 5 million years of history, including impressive Parthian and Seljuk artifacts. Afternoon at Old Nissa (UNESCO), the Parthian fortress city, exploring the royal residence, temples, and treasury. Visit the Turkmenbashi Ruhy Mosque and the family mausoleum complex in Kipchak. Evening free. Overnight in Ashgabat.

Day 3: Ashgabat to Darvaza — Into the Karakum

Morning visit to an Akhal-Teke horse stable to see Turkmenistan’s legendary golden horses. These “heavenly horses” have been bred for over 3,000 years and appear on Turkmenistan’s national emblem. Visit the Kow Ata Underground Lake, a natural thermal lake 60 meters underground in a limestone cave — swim in the warm, mineral-rich water (36°C). Afternoon departure in a 4×4 vehicle across the Karakum Desert to the Darvaza Gas Crater. Set up camp at the crater’s edge. As darkness falls, experience the hypnotic flames of the “Gates of Hell.” Overnight camping at Darvaza.

Day 4: Darvaza to Kunya-Urgench — Northern Heritage

Sunrise at the burning crater. After breakfast, drive north across the Karakum Desert to Kunya-Urgench (UNESCO), the ancient capital of Khorezm. Explore this remarkable archaeological site: the 60-meter Kutlug Timur Minaret (the tallest in Central Asia when built), the Turabeg Khanym Mausoleum with its stunning blue mosaic dome considered a masterpiece of Islamic architecture, and the mausoleum of the Sufi poet Najm al-Din Kubra. Overnight in Dashoguz or Kunya-Urgench.

Day 5: Kunya-Urgench to Ashgabat — Ancient Merv

Morning flight from Dashoguz to Mary. Visit Ancient Merv (UNESCO), one of the great cities of the Islamic world and a major Silk Road oasis. Known as “Marv-i-Shahijan” (Merv the Great), it was once the world’s largest city in the 12th century. Explore the Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum, the Greater and Lesser Kyz Kalas (mysterious fortress-like buildings), and the ice houses that kept ice frozen in the desert summer. Afternoon flight back to Ashgabat. Farewell dinner at a restaurant overlooking the illuminated city. Overnight in Ashgabat.

Day 6: Ashgabat — Bazaar & Departure

Morning visit to the Tolkuchka Bazaar for last-minute Turkmen souvenirs: handwoven Turkmen carpets (recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage), silver jewelry with carnelian stones, traditional telpek (sheepskin hats), and locally grown pistachios. Transfer to Ashgabat International Airport for departure. Leave with memories of marble cities, ancient empires, and the eternal flames of Darvaza.
