Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: UK Departure — Journey to the South Coast
Depart from the UK mainland and travel to the south coast. Settle into a comfortable hotel for an overnight stay near the ferry port. Enjoy dinner and prepare for tomorrow’s Channel crossing. Overnight on UK South Coast.
Day 2: Sail to Guernsey — Welcome to the Channel Islands
Morning ferry from Poole to Guernsey, sailing past the Needles on the Isle of Wight and across the English Channel. Arrive in St Peter Port, one of the most charming harbor towns in Europe with its cobbled streets climbing steeply from the marina. Check into your hotel on the south coast near Saints Bay. Afternoon orientation walk: explore the harbor, the 800-year-old Castle Cornet (guarding the harbor since 1204), and the charming lanes of the Old Quarter. Overnight in Guernsey (3 nights).
Day 3: Guernsey Island Tour — Coastal Grandeur
Half-day guided tour of Guernsey’s breathtaking coastline. Drive the winding coastal roads past hidden coves, dramatic cliffs, and sandy bays. Visit the Little Chapel — possibly the world’s smallest chapel, decorated entirely with seashells, pebbles, and broken china, rebuilt three times by a single monk. Stop at the German Occupation Museum, telling the remarkable story of the Channel Islands — the only part of British soil occupied by Nazi Germany during WWII. Afternoon free to explore St Peter Port: browse the boutiques, visit Victor Hugo’s Hauteville House where he wrote Les Misérables during 15 years of exile, or take a cliff path walk. Day 4: Herm Island — Paradise Island Day Trip
Short ferry crossing (20 minutes) to Herm, the smallest of the Channel Islands open to visitors — just 1.5 miles long, half a mile wide, with no cars, no crowds, and no stress. This is what the Channel Islands were like 100 years ago. Walk the coastal path encircling the entire island (about 2 hours), passing Shell Beach with its millions of tiny shells, Belvoir Bay’s turquoise waters, and the Neolithic tombs on the common. Lunch at the Mermaid Tavern, the island’s only pub. Swim at Shell Beach — the water clarity rivals the Caribbean. Return to Guernsey for the evening. Overnight in Guernsey.
Day 5: Cross-Island Ferry to Jersey
Morning at leisure in St Peter Port. Afternoon ferry to Jersey, the largest Channel Island. Check into your hotel in St Helier, the island’s capital. Evening: explore St Helier’s waterfront and the Victorian Central Market, with its ornate cast-iron and glass roof dating from 1882. Overnight in Jersey (3 nights).
Day 6: Jersey Coastal Tour — Lighthouses & Liberation
Full-day tour of Jersey’s dramatic coastline. Drive to the island’s northwest corner to visit the ruins of Grosnez Castle, a 14th-century fortification perched on cliffs 60 meters above the Atlantic. Continue to the Corbière Lighthouse, connected to the mainland by a causeway that disappears at high tide — one of the most photographed lighthouses in the British Isles. Visit the Jersey War Tunnels, a haunting underground hospital built by forced laborers during the German occupation, now telling the story of island life under occupation. Afternoon: stop at St Brelade’s Bay, Jersey’s most beautiful beach with golden sand and gentle surf. Overnight in Jersey.
Day 7: Jersey In-Depth — Castles & Durrell Wildlife
Morning: visit Mont Orgueil Castle, the magnificent 13th-century fortress that protected Jersey from French invasion for 600 years, with a maze of staircases, towers, and hidden rooms revealing layers of medieval history. Continue to La Hougue Bie, one of Europe’s finest Neolithic passage graves (3500 BC), topped with two medieval chapels. Afternoon: Durrell Wildlife Park, founded by naturalist Gerald Durrell, dedicated to saving species from extinction — meet endangered gorillas, orangutans, and lemurs in beautifully landscaped enclosures. Farewell dinner featuring Jersey Royals (new potatoes), Jersey oysters, and fresh Channel Island seafood. Overnight in Jersey.
Day 8: Return Journey
Morning ferry from Jersey back to the UK mainland. Connect to your onward journey.
