Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Brazzaville — Congo Republic
Arrive Brazzaville. Day 1: Poto-Poto Market, Basilique Sainte-Anne, Nabemba Tower viewpoint. Day 2: Congo River rapids, National Museum (Kongo Kingdom artifacts), de Brazza Memorial. Cross into Kinshasa (DRC) by pirogue ferry across the Congo River — the world’s deepest river.
Day 3-4: Kinshasa — DR Congo
Explore the vibrant chaos of Kinshasa, Africa’s largest French-speaking city. Visit the Académie des Beaux-Arts, the vibrant Matonge district (heart of Congolese rumba music), the Marché Central, and the Bonobo sanctuary at Lola ya Bonobo. Experience Kinshasa’s legendary nightlife with live Congolese rumba — UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Visit the National Museum of DRC.
Day 5-6: Atlantic Coast to Muanda
Drive west to Muanda on DR Congo’s tiny Atlantic coastline. Explore mangrove forests, traditional fishing villages, and the spectacular coastline where the Congo River finally meets the ocean. Visit the Parc Marin des Mangroves.
Day 7-8: Cabinda — Angola’s Exclave
Cross into Cabinda, Angola’s oil-rich exclave separated from the mainland by a strip of DR Congo. Explore Cabinda City, its Portuguese colonial architecture, the Maiombe Forest, and pristine Atlantic beaches that few travelers ever see. Visit the Simulambuco Monument marking the 1885 treaty.
Day 9-10: Pointe-Noire & Conkouati — Congo Republic
Return to Congo Republic. Explore Pointe-Noire: Diosso Gorge, African Mask Museum, and Côte Sauvage. Day 10: Conkouati-Douli National Park — forest elephants on the beach, chimpanzee tracking, lagoon boat safari.
Day 11-12: Train & Depart
Gazelle Express jungle train back to Brazzaville (or flight). Final evening Congo River sunset dinner cruise. Day 12: departure from Brazzaville.
