Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali Arrival — City Tour — Volcanoes National Park
Arrive Kigali, city tour including Genocide Memorial and craft markets. Lunch at a local restaurant in Kigali. Scenic afternoon drive to Volcanoes National Park (2.5 hours). Check into your luxury mountain lodge with views of the Virunga volcanoes. Welcome dinner and gorilla trek briefing. Overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking — Volcanoes National Park
Early breakfast, transfer to park headquarters (7:00 AM) for gorilla trek briefing. Trek through bamboo and montane forest to encounter one of 12 habituated gorilla families. Spend one magical hour observing gorillas — an experience that ranks among the world’s most profound wildlife encounters. Return to lodge for late lunch. Afternoon visit to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International campus to learn about ongoing conservation efforts. Overnight at mountain lodge.

Day 3: Lake Kivu — Relaxation & Waterfront
Morning at leisure or optional golden monkey trek (supplement). After lunch, drive west through terraced hills to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu (1.5 hours). Check into your lakefront resort. Afternoon at leisure — swim in the crystal-clear freshwater, kayak on the lake, or simply relax on the beach with views of the Congolese mountains across the water. Sunset cocktail cruise on Lake Kivu. Dinner at the resort.

Day 4: Lake Kivu Morning — Kigali Departure
Leisurely breakfast by the lake. Morning visit to a local coffee washing station to see Rwanda’s famous specialty coffee being processed. Scenic drive back to Kigali (3 hours) through the Lake Kivu region, one of Rwanda’s most photogenic landscapes. Lunch in Kigali before transfer to the airport for departure.
