Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Port of Spain — Trinidad
Arrive at Piarco International Airport. Transfer to your hotel in Port of Spain. Evening introduction to Trinidad’s legendary street food — doubles (curried chickpeas on fried bara bread), bake and shark, and corn soup from Queen’s Park Savannah vendors. Overnight in Port of Spain.
Day 2: Port of Spain & Carnival Culture
Full day in Trinidad’s vibrant capital. Morning: visit the Magnificent Seven — a row of elaborate colonial mansions around Queen’s Park Savannah. Tour the National Museum and Art Gallery. Afternoon: visit a mas camp (masquerade camp) where Carnival costumes are designed and made — meet designers and learn about Trinidad Carnival, the greatest show on Earth. Evening: steel pan performance — the only acoustic instrument invented in the 20th century was born right here. Overnight in Port of Spain.
Day 3: Asa Wright Nature Centre — Birdwatcher’s Paradise
Full day at the world-famous Asa Wright Nature Centre in the Northern Range. This former coffee-cocoa plantation is now a premier eco-lodge and one of the world’s top birding locations. The veranda overlooks a feeding station where you’ll see 15+ species of hummingbirds, honeycreepers, and the rare oilbird — the only nocturnal fruit-eating bird. Guided rainforest walk to a crystal-clear waterfall pool. Trinidad has recorded 480+ bird species — more per square mile than almost anywhere on Earth. Overnight in Port of Spain.
Day 4: Maracas Bay & North Coast
Drive the scenic North Coast Road to Maracas Bay, Trinidad’s most famous beach. Stop at the lookout for spectacular views of the coastline. At Maracas: time for swimming and the essential “bake and shark” sandwich from Richard’s — fried shark in fried dough with tamarind, garlic, and pepper sauces. Continue to Las Cuevas Beach, a quieter cove with dramatic cliffs. Afternoon hike to Paria Waterfall through the coastal rainforest. Overnight in Port of Spain.
Day 5: Tobago — Island Paradise
Morning flight to Tobago (20 minutes). Check into your beachfront hotel near Crown Point. Afternoon at Pigeon Point Heritage Park — Tobago’s most iconic beach with the famous thatched-roof jetty. Crystal clear water, white sand, and views of the Buccoo Reef. Evening: Sunday School — Tobago’s weekly street party in Buccoo with steel pan, dancing, and fresh seafood. Overnight near Crown Point.
Day 6: Buccoo Reef & Nylon Pool
Glass-bottom boat excursion to Buccoo Reef, one of the Caribbean’s most accessible coral reefs. Snorkel among colorful fish and coral formations. The highlight: Nylon Pool — a crystal-clear, waist-deep sandbank in the middle of the ocean where you can walk on water. Legend says swimming here takes 10 years off your age. Beach BBQ lunch on No Man’s Land, a tiny sand spit. Overnight near Crown Point.
Day 7: Tobago Rainforest & Argyle Falls
Morning nature tour in Tobago’s Main Ridge Forest Reserve — the oldest legally protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere (1764!). Hike to Argyle Falls, Tobago’s highest waterfall (175 feet) with multiple levels and swimming pools. Spot hummingbirds, motmots, and the rare white-tailed sabrewing. Afternoon at Englishman’s Bay, a perfect crescent of palm-fringed sand often completely empty. Farewell dinner at Store Bay featuring curried crab and dumplings. Overnight near Crown Point.
Day 8: Depart Tobago
Morning at Store Bay — last swim in Tobago’s turquoise water. Transfer to ANR Robinson Airport.
