Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Montevideo
Airport pickup and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon orientation walk through Ciudad Vieja — see the Gateway of the Citadel, Plaza Matriz, and the Cathedral. Evening welcome dinner featuring Uruguayan beef and local wine. Overnight in Montevideo.
Day 2: Montevideo — Markets & Museums
Morning exploration of Port Market for its famous asado (BBQ). Visit the Carnival Museum and the Torres Garcia Museum. Afternoon walking tour along 18 de Julio Avenue, seeing the Gaucho Monument and University of the Republic. Evening tango and candombe drumming show. Overnight in Montevideo.
Day 3: Colonia del Sacramento
Bus journey along the scenic Route 1 to Colonia. Full day exploring this UNESCO gem — the Drawbridge, San Francisco Convent ruins, the Portuguese tiles museum. Lunch at a restaurant overlooking the river. Optional bike rental to explore the bullring and Real de San Carlos. Return to Montevideo in the evening.
Day 4: Punta del Este
Morning departure to the Hamptons of South America — Punta del Este. Visit Casapueblo, the white paradise built by artist Carlos Paez Vilaro. Stop at Playa Brava to see the famous “Hand in the Sand” sculpture. Explore the chic boutiques and galleries of La Barra. Seafood lunch overlooking the harbor. Return to Montevideo.
Day 5: Wine Country — Canelones
Excursion to nearby Canelones wine region, just 30km from Montevideo. Visit Bodega Bouza for a tour of their vineyard, winery, and classic car museum. Tasting of Albari�o, Tannat, and Merlot. Visit a second boutique winery. Traditional chivito sandwich lunch. Afternoon return to Montevideo with free evening.
Day 6: Depart Montevideo
Morning at leisure for last-minute shopping at Punta Carretas Shopping or the Tristan Narvaja market. Transfer to airport. Hasta luego, Uruguay!
