Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Georgetown
Arrive in Georgetown. Day 2: city tour — St. George’s Cathedral, Stabroek Market, the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology. Evening at the Seawall. Overnight at Cara Lodge.
Day 3: Kaieteur Falls
Charter flight to Kaieteur National Park. Spend extended time at the falls — morning and afternoon light for photography. Exclusive hike to lesser-visited viewpoints. Return to Georgetown.
Day 4-5: Iwokrama Forest
Drive to Iwokrama. Two days of exploration: canopy walkway at dawn, Turtle Mountain hike, river safaris at dusk. Visits to both the Iwokrama River Lodge and the remote Atta Rainforest Lodge deep in the forest.
Day 6-7: Surama Village
Travel to Surama for deep Macushi cultural immersion. Traditional hunting techniques, medicinal plant walks, blowpipe demonstrations. Night walk with headlamps to spot kinkajous, nightjars, and tarantulas.
Day 8-9: Rupununi & Karanambu
Continue to the Rupununi Savannah. Two days at Karanambu Lodge: tracking giant anteaters, boat trips for giant river otters, afternoon swims in the river. Visit nearby villages and learn about the Rupununi’s unique cowboy (vaqueiro) culture.
Day 10-11: Rewa Village & River
Journey to Rewa, one of Guyana’s most remote communities. The Rewa River is famous for arapaima, the world’s largest scaled freshwater fish (up to 3 meters long). Fish for peacock bass with traditional methods. Jungle walks to spot harpy eagles.
Day 12-13: Lethem & Kanuku Mountains
Travel south to Lethem, Guyana’s frontier town on the Brazil border. Explore the foothills of the Kanuku Mountains, considered by biologists as one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. Sunset horseback ride across the savannah.
Day 14: Fly to Georgetown & Depart
Morning market visit in Lethem. Flight to Georgetown, connecting to international departure.
