Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Majuro — The Longest Atoll
Arrive at Amata Kabua International Airport. Majuro is a stunning ribbon of land — 30 miles long but never more than a few hundred yards wide. Your hotel sits between the lagoon and the ocean. Afternoon orientation drive the length of Majuro — from Rita in the east to Laura in the west, the only stretch of the atoll wide enough to feel like a “real” island with jungle and the only sand beach. Overnight in Majuro.
Day 2: Majuro Atoll — WWII History & Nuclear Legacy
Full-day Majuro exploration. Morning: visit the Alele Museum, the best cultural museum in the North Pacific, with exhibits on traditional navigation (Marshall Islanders were among the world’s finest ocean navigators using stick charts), WWII, and the nuclear testing era. Afternoon: visit the Peace Park Memorial on the site of the old Japanese headquarters at Laura. Learn about the nuclear testing legacy — from 1946 to 1958, 67 nuclear tests were conducted at Bikini and Enewetak atolls, and the Marshall Islands remains deeply affected. Visit Laura Beach, the only proper sand beach on Majuro. Overnight in Majuro.
Day 3: Arno Atoll — Traditional Marshallese Life
Full-day boat expedition to Arno Atoll (1 hour from Majuro). Arno is traditional Marshall Islands — no hotels, no electricity (in most areas), just pristine atoll life. Walk the outer islands, visit village communities, and see copra (dried coconut) being made. Swim in the lagoon where visibility exceeds 100 feet. Fish with local hand lines — tuna, grouper, and reef fish that become your barbecue lunch on a deserted motu. This is the real Pacific — untouched, timeless, and profoundly peaceful. Return to Majuro in the evening. Overnight in Majuro.
Day 4: Diving Majuro — Airplanes & Reefs
Full-day diving/snorkeling. Majuro’s lagoon holds a unique dive site: an Air Marshall Islands Dornier 228 airplane that crashed on takeoff in 1991 and now lies intact in 60 feet of water — an extraordinary artificial reef encrusted with corals and swarming with fish. Second dive on the Kalalin Pass, where the ocean meets the lagoon — sharks, eagle rays, and massive schools of jacks ride the current. Non-divers snorkel the reef top. Overnight in Majuro.
Day 5: Stick Charts & Navigation — The Marshallese Art of Wayfinding
Morning: workshop on traditional Marshallese navigation. Learn about the mattang, meddo, and rebbelib — stick charts made of coconut fronds and shells that encoded wave patterns, currents, and island positions. Marshallese navigators could find islands 100+ miles away by reading wave refraction patterns. Afternoon: try your hand at making a simple stick chart and learn the basics of reading ocean swells. Visit the Tobolar Copra Processing Plant to see how coconut oil (the main export) is produced. Overnight in Majuro.
Day 6: Eneko Island & Lagoon Exploration
Boat to Eneko Island (Eneko-aito), a private island in the lagoon. Perfect white sand, crystal water, and excellent snorkeling. This is the island everyone imagines when they think of the South Pacific. Beach barbecue of fresh-caught fish, coconut rice, and tropical fruit. Afternoon kayaking and paddleboarding in the calm lagoon. Farewell dinner at a restaurant overlooking the lagoon, with Marshallese music. Overnight in Majuro.
Day 7: Depart Majuro
Morning visit to the RRE handicraft shop for traditional woven baskets, fans, and jewelry. Transfer to airport.
