Day 1: Arrive Port Vila — Welcome to Vanuatu
Arrive at Bauerfield International Airport. Traditional welcome with flower leis and kava ceremony. Transfer to your resort on Erakor Lagoon. Afternoon at leisure — swim in the lagoon, snorkel from your overwater bure. Overnight at Port Vila resort.
Day 2: Port Vila — Melanesian Culture & Markets
Morning visit to the Port Vila Market — one of the South Pacific’s best fresh markets with colorful produce, handicrafts, and the famous Vanuatu laplap (national dish). Visit the Vanuatu Cultural Centre and National Museum — see slit drums, outrigger canoes, and the extraordinary sand drawings recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Afternoon at Mele Cascades — swim in tiered waterfall pools surrounded by tropical forest. Overnight at Port Vila resort.
Day 3: Tanna Island — The World’s Most Accessible Volcano
Morning flight to Tanna Island. Afternoon visit to a traditional kastom village — the people of Tanna maintain one of the world’s strongest living traditional cultures, including the John Frum cargo cult. Witness a traditional dance performance and learn about kastom (customary law) that governs daily life. As dusk falls, drive to the base of Mount Yasur for the main event. Overnight at Tanna lodge.
Day 4: Mount Yasur Volcano — Fire in the Night
Late afternoon departure for Mount Yasur — the world’s most accessible active volcano. Stand at the crater rim (safety permitting) and witness one of nature’s greatest spectacles: molten lava bombs exploding into the dusk sky every few minutes. The ground trembles beneath your feet as the volcano’s roar fills the air. As darkness falls, the eruptions become a fireworks display of glowing magma against the night sky. This is an experience that will never leave you. Overnight at Tanna lodge.
Day 5: Tanna — Blue Cave & Hot Springs
Morning visit to the Blue Cave on Tanna’s coast — a hidden sea cave where sunlight creates an ethereal blue glow. Swim into the cave at low tide. Afternoon at the natural hot springs created by Yasur’s volcanic activity — bathe in warm mineral water with views of the volcano smoking in the distance. Visit a coffee plantation — Tanna coffee is organically grown in volcanic soil and is among the world’s finest. Overnight at Tanna lodge.
Day 6: Return to Efate — Hideaway Island & Marine Sanctuary
Fly back to Efate. Morning at Hideaway Island Marine Sanctuary — snorkeling among Giant clams, colorful coral, and tropical fish. Visit the world’s only underwater post office — mail a waterproof postcard from beneath the sea. Afternoon at the Ekasup Cultural Village for a fascinating tour of traditional Melanesian life, including the demonstration of nalot (kava preparation). Overnight at Port Vila resort.
Day 7: Efate Round-Island Tour & Farewell
Full-day circumnavigation of Efate. Visit the Survivor Beach (filming location of the US TV series). Stop at secluded beaches, the Havannah Harbour (WWII history), and Epule River waterfall. Lunch at a beachside restaurant. Afternoon: visit the Blue Lagoon — a stunning freshwater swimming hole surrounded by banyan trees. Farewell kava ceremony and island feast. Overnight at Port Vila resort.
Day 8: Depart Port Vila
Morning at the market for last-minute Vanuatu handicrafts and Tanna coffee. Transfer to airport.
