Day 4: Jubbah Petroglyphs & Journey to AlUla
Morning: Jubbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring some of the world’s most extraordinary rock art — 5,500-year-old petroglyphs depicting human figures, ibex, camels, and extinct wild cattle, carved when this desert was a lush savanna with lakes. Afternoon: drive to AlUla (4 hours), Saudi Arabia’s most spectacular destination. Arrive at Elephant Rock (Jabal AlFil) — a 52-meter sandstone monolith shaped by wind and water into the form of a massive elephant — for sunset photos. Day 5: Hegra (Madain Saleh) — Saudi Arabia’s Petra
Full day at Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage site. This Nabataean city — the southern capital of the same civilization that built Petra in Jordan — contains 111 monumental tombs carved directly into towering sandstone outcrops between the 1st century BC and 1st century AD. Unlike Petra, Hegra sees only a fraction of visitors, giving you these masterpieces essentially to yourself. Afternoon: explore Al-Balad, Jeddah’s UNESCO-listed historic district — a maze of coral-stone buildings with intricately carved wooden rawashin (bay windows), many built by wealthy merchant families during the spice trade era.
