Day 1: Fly to David — Arrive Boquete
Domestic flight from Panama City (or direct arrival) to David, capital of Chiriquí Province. Scenic 45-minute drive up into the mountains to Boquete, a charming town of flower-lined streets, cool mountain air, and views of Volcán Barú (3,474m). Afternoon orientation walk through Boquete’s main streets, visiting the Tuesday market if your arrival aligns. Evening farm-to-table dinner featuring Chiriquí’s famous produce—this region grows 80% of Panama’s vegetables. Overnight Boquete.
Day 2: Geisha Coffee & Cloud Forest
Morning at Finca Lérida or a similar renowned coffee estate, where you’ll walk through shade-grown plantations and learn why Panama’s Geisha coffee regularly sells for $1,000+ per pound at auction. The cupping (tasting) session reveals Geisha’s legendary jasmine, bergamot, and stone fruit notes. Afternoon hike the Pipeline Trail through the cloud forest of Volcán Barú National Park, a world-class birding destination where the resplendent quetzal—arguably the world’s most beautiful bird—can sometimes be spotted. Day 3: Adventure Day — Zip-line, Hot Springs or Rock Climbing
Choose your adventure. Option 1: zip-line through the cloud forest canopy on some of Central America’s longest cables, soaring above coffee plantations and river gorges. Option 2: soak in natural hot springs fed by Volcán Barú’s geothermal activity at Caldera. Option 3: rock climb on Boquete’s basalt columns, suitable for beginners and experienced climbers alike. Option 4: whitewater rafting on the Chiriquí Viejo River (Class III–IV rapids). Evening at leisure. Overnight Boquete.
Day 4: Drive to Bocas del Toro
Morning departure from the highlands, descending through cloud forest to the Caribbean lowlands—a journey of dramatic landscape transitions. Cross the continental divide and arrive at Almirante, where a 30-minute water taxi whisks you across the bay to Isla Colón, the main island of the Bocas del Toro archipelago. Afternoon at leisure—rent a bike to explore the island, swim at Playa Estrella (Starfish Beach), or relax at your overwater hotel. Overnight Bocas del Toro.
Day 5: Dolphin Bay & Coral Cay Snorkeling
Full-day boat excursion. Morning in Dolphin Bay (Bahía de los Delfines), where resident bottlenose dolphins reliably surface around the boat—one of the best places in Central America for wild dolphin encounters. Continue to Coral Cay for snorkeling over pristine reefs with excellent visibility. Lunch at a rustic overwater restaurant on a remote island. Afternoon stop at Red Frog Beach on Isla Bastimentos, named for the tiny strawberry poison-dart frogs that inhabit the jungle behind the sand. Overnight Bocas del Toro.
Day 6: Isla Bastimentos & Zapatilla Cays
Journey to Isla Bastimentos, the archipelago’s largest island and home to the Ngäbe-Buglé indigenous community. Visit a Ngäbe village to learn about their traditional way of life. Then boat to the Zapatilla Cays, two uninhabited islands within the Bastimentos National Marine Park. These postcard-perfect islets offer pristine white sand, coconut palms, and snorkeling over protected coral reefs with hawksbill turtles. This is Bocas at its most untouched. Farewell dinner at a waterfront restaurant in Bocas Town. Overnight Bocas del Toro.
Day 7: Departure
Morning at leisure for last-minute souvenir shopping (Panama hats, actually from Ecuador, but locally woven tagua nut carvings are excellent). Water taxi to Almirante, transfer to Bocas del Toro Airport or David Airport for onward flight.
