Day 1: Maun to the Okavango Delta
Arrive Maun. Meet your private guide and transfer to the mokoro station. Board traditional dugout canoes and glide into the Delta’s permanent waterways — a labyrinth of papyrus channels, lily-covered lagoons, and palm-fringed islands. After 2 hours of peaceful poling, arrive at your private mobile camp on a remote island. Afternoon nature walk with your guide. Sundowner drinks as the sun sets over the floodplains. Overnight wild camping.
Day 2: Full Day Mokoro & Walking Safari
Dawn walking safari — the cool morning hours when wildlife is most active. Track elephants through riverine forest, observe red lechwe antelopes splashing through shallows, and watch for predators returning from night hunts. Return to camp for brunch. Afternoon mokoro excursion to explore deeper channels and lagoons. Try your hand at poling — it’s harder than it looks! Evening campfire dinner under a canopy of stars. Overnight wild camping.
Day 3: Delta to Khwai Concession
Sunrise mokoro ride back to the station. Transfer by 4×4 to the Khwai Concession — a community-run wildlife area bordering Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai River attracts extraordinary wildlife concentrations. Set up camp near the river. Afternoon game drive: Khwai is one of the best places in Africa to see African wild dogs, with several resident packs. Leopard sightings are also frequent in the riverine forest. Overnight Khwai camp.
Day 4: Full Day Khwai Game Drives
Full-day exploration of Khwai. Morning drive along the river tracking predators — lion prides often rest in the shade of sausage trees near the water. Picnic lunch at a scenic spot overlooking hippo pools. Afternoon drive to different areas of the concession: open floodplains for cheetah, mopane woodland for elephants, and the river for birdlife including the spectacular carmine bee-eaters (seasonal). Night drive permitted in the concession — search for leopard, genet, civet, and the bizarre springhare. Overnight Khwai camp.
Day 5: Khwai to Moremi Game Reserve
Enter Moremi Game Reserve — the protected core of the Okavango Delta. Full-day game drive through diverse habitats: from Xakanaxa Lagoon (hippo central) to the open plains of Chief’s Island. Moremi consistently delivers some of Africa’s best game viewing with high densities of predators and prey. Picnic lunch at a hippo pool. Focus on finding the elusive sitatunga antelope and Pel’s fishing owl. Overnight Moremi camping.
Day 6: Final Game Drive & Return to Maun
Dawn game drive — one last chance to find anything you’ve missed. After breakfast, game drive back toward the reserve gate. Transfer to Maun Airport for departure — carrying memories of one of Africa’s wildest and most pristine ecosystems.
