3:30 AM departure for Angkor Wat at sunrise — the five towers silhouetted against a sky of orange and pink. Full morning: Angkor Thom, the Bayon with 216 giant stone faces, and Ta Prohm — where giant tree roots embrace ancient stones (the Tomb Raider temple).
Banteay Srei & Countryside
Morning at Banteay Srei — the Citadel of Women — carved from pink sandstone with the finest bas-reliefs in Angkor. Afternoon cycling through rice paddies and lotus fields to local villages. Sunset at Pre Rup temple-mountain.
Tonle Sap & Floating Villages
Boat trip to the floating villages of Tonle Sap — the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Visit Kompong Khleang — homes, schools, even a basketball court, all floating on the water. Afternoon at the Artisans Angkor silk farm.
