Day 1: Arrive Khartoum & Briefing
Arrive at Khartoum International Airport. Transfer to hotel. Orientation briefing with your private guide to design your preferred route. Visit the Sudan National Museum housing rescued Nubian temples and Kushite artifacts. Welcome dinner on Nile Street.
Day 2: Choose Your Path
Option A: Drive to Meroe for the pyramids, Naqa temple complex, and Musawwarat Great Enclosure — Sudan’s greatest archaeological treasures.
Option B: Omdurman cultural immersion — sprawling souq, Mahdi’s Tomb, Khalifa House Museum, and evening Sufi Dervish whirling ceremony.
Day 3: Old Dongola — Christian Nubia
Drive north along the Nile. Explore Old Dongola — the medieval capital of the Christian Nubian Kingdom of Makuria (6th-14th century). Throne Hall ruins, churches with remarkably preserved early Christian frescoes. Overnight in the Dongola area.
Day 4: Jebel Barkal & Nuri Pyramids
Jebel Barkal — the flat-topped sacred mountain believed to be the home of the god Amun. Explore temples and pyramids at the mountain’s base. Afternoon at Nuri pyramids — over 60 pyramids including Pharaoh Taharqa’s tomb with remarkably preserved painted chambers.
Day 5: Remote Nile Temples
Visit Tombos — ancient granite quarries with Egyptian inscriptions. Wadi Sebu — prehistoric rock art sites. Continue to Soleb Temple of Amenhotep III — one of the most remote and atmospheric Egyptian temples in Sudan, standing dramatically on the Nile’s west bank.
Day 6: Kerma & Return to Khartoum
Kerma archaeological site — one of Africa’s oldest urban settlements dating to 3800 BC, capital of the first Kingdom of Kush. Cross the Nile by local ferry. Drive back toward Khartoum through Nubian villages.
Day 7: Departure from Khartoum
Final morning along Nile Street. Last-minute shopping for Sudanese crafts and silver jewelry. Transfer to Khartoum International Airport for departure.
