Day 1: Arrive Juba — Nile River Welcome
Arrive at Juba International Airport. Your expedition leader and security team meet you at the airport. Transfer to your hotel along the White Nile. Day 2: Juba Exploration — Capital of the Newest Nation
Full-day exploration of Juba. Visit the University of Juba campus, the Jubek Tomb historical site, and the vibrant Konyo Konyo Market — South Sudan’s largest open-air market where traders from Uganda, Kenya, and Sudan converge. Afternoon visit to the Dr. John Garang Mausoleum, honoring the founding father. Explore the craft market for Dinka and Nuer beadwork and traditional artifacts. Evening at a local restaurant. Overnight at Juba hotel.
Day 3: Journey to Mundari Cattle Camp
Morning departure from Juba, driving north through the Nile floodplain. Arrive at a Mundari tribal cattle camp near Terekeka. The Mundari are renowned as the world’s greatest cattle herders — their entire culture and identity revolves around their prized Ankole-Watusi cattle with massive sweeping horns. Witness the mesmerizing afternoon ritual as hundreds of cattle return from grazing, accompanied by singing herders covered in ash-white body decoration (a natural mosquito repellent and sunscreen). Participate in camp life: milking demonstrations, calving rituals, and oral storytelling around dung fires. Set up camp at the edge of the cattle enclosure. Overnight camping at the Mundari camp.
Day 4: Dawn with the Mundari — Full Day Tribal Life
Wake before sunrise to witness the morning cattle ritual: herders massage ash into the cattle’s hides, sing to their favorite cows, and lead them to grazing grounds. Participate in daily activities: learning to identify individual cattle by horn shape (each Mundari knows all 200+ of their cattle by name), helping with milk collection, and observing the intricate social structure of the camp. Afternoon photography session with the tribe’s elders who share stories of South Sudan’s journey to independence. Sunset brings the cattle home in another spectacular display. Final evening around the campfire with traditional Mundari singing. Overnight camping at the Mundari camp.
Day 5: Return to Juba — Departure
Morning farewell to the Mundari community. Drive back to Juba, with a stop at a local village along the way. Afternoon free time in Juba for last-minute souvenir shopping. Transfer to Juba International Airport for departure.
