Day 1: Arusha — Fly to Serengeti
Your safari begins with the experience itself: a morning bush flight from Arusha Airport (ARK) to Serengeti. The 1-hour flight in a 12-seater Cessna Caravan or similar light aircraft flies low enough to see wildlife from the air — herds of wildebeest and zebra scattered across the plains like pepper, giraffes browsing acacia trees, elephants moving in single file. Day 2: Serengeti — Full Day Game Drive
Full day exploring Serengeti by 4×4. Your guide tailors the day to wildlife movements and your interests. The luxury of a fly-in safari means your camp is centrally located — you spend time game viewing, not driving to park gates. Morning: track the big cats as they hunt in the first cool hours. Serengeti’s lion population is approximately 3,000 — the largest in Africa. Leopards here are habituated to vehicles and allow remarkably close approaches when lounging in sausage trees. Cheetahs hunt in the open plains, their spotted coats camouflaging them in the golden grass.
Your guide will also help you appreciate the smaller wonders: the lilac-breasted roller (the most beautiful bird in Africa, with turquoise, purple, and chestnut plumage), the oxpeckers riding on buffalo backs eating ticks, the dung beetles rolling their perfect spheres — each of which, as ancient Egyptians noted, placed with a replica of the sun. Picnic lunch at a scenic kopje. Afternoon: visit the Serengeti Visitor Center for the informative display on migration ecology and the interesting “kopje walk” — a self-guided trail around the rocks explaining the geology and microhabitats. Return to camp for a bush shower (hot water delivered to your tent’s en-suite bucket shower), sundowner on the deck, and dinner. Overnight in Serengeti.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive — Fly to Arusha
Dawn game drive — the last chance for that elusive sighting. Morning light on the Serengeti plains creates the most beautiful photography conditions. Return to Seronera airstrip for your bush flight back to Arusha, arriving by midday for your international connection or onward safari extension to Zanzibar (easily combined).
