Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Yangon — Family Welcome
Arrive Yangon. Family-friendly transfer to hotel. Day 2: gentle introduction to Myanmar — Shwedagon Pagoda (kids love the sparkling diamonds and golden stupa), Bogyoke Market (treasure hunt for souvenirs), and Kandawgyi Park with playgrounds and the Karaweik barge. Day 3-4: Bagan — Temples & Balloons
Fly to Bagan. Two days of family temple exploration. Day 3: gentle e-bike tour through the temple plain — kids love the freedom of zipping between ancient pagodas. Visit Ananda Temple with its four towering Buddhas. Evening horse cart ride — the whole family in a traditional cart through the temples at golden hour. Day 4: optional sunrise hot air balloon (age 7+), sand painting workshop with local artists, and lacquerware demonstration. Afternoon: family cooking class — learn to make Burmese tea leaf salad and Mohinga (the national dish). Overnight in Bagan.
Day 5: Mount Popa — Monkey Mountain
Day trip to Mount Popa — kids will love the 777-step climb (take it at your own pace) and the resident monkeys. The temple on top is fascinating, and the views are unforgettable. Afternoon return to Bagan. Overnight in Bagan.
Day 6-7: Inle Lake — Floating World
Fly to Inle Lake. Two days on the water. Day 6: family boat tour — watch fishermen row with one leg (kids can try!), visit floating gardens, and see silk and lotus weaving. The highlight for children: the Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery where cats perform tricks. Day 7: Indein market and the jungle pagodas — let the kids explore the 1,000+ ancient stupas. Afternoon: kayaking on the lake and swimming at the hotel pool. Overnight at lakeside family resort.
Day 8-9: Mandalay — Royal City
Fly to Mandalay. Day 8: visit the gold leaf workshop where teams of men pound gold for hours (mesmerizing to watch), Kuthodaw Pagoda — the “world’s largest book” carved on 729 marble slabs. Sunset at Mandalay Hill. Day 9: boat trip to Mingun — the enormous bell the kids can ring, and Hsinbyume Pagoda that looks like a white wedding cake. Afternoon: U Bein Bridge walk as the sun sets. Overnight in Mandalay.
Day 10: Mandalay to Yangon
Morning at leisure in Mandalay — last chance for the Mandalay market. Fly to Yangon. Afternoon: Bogyoke Market (Scott Market) for final souvenir hunting — puppets, lacquerware, and longyi (traditional sarongs) for the whole family. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Yangon.
Day 11: Depart Yangon
Transfer to airport. The kids leave with memories of temples, monkeys, balloons, and the warmest smiles on Earth.
