Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Asmara

Day 2: Asmara Architecture & Culture Day
Full architectural tour including the Fiat Tagliero, Cinema Impero, Opera House, and lesser-known rationalist gems. Visit the Eritrean National Museum and the Tank Graveyard. Afternoon traditional coffee ceremony with a local family. Overnight at Asmara hotel.
Day 3: Timket Festival — Epiphany Celebration
Timket (Epiphany) is Eritrea’s most important Orthodox Christian festival, celebrating the baptism of Jesus. Morning: join thousands of white-clad worshippers as priests in embroidered robes carry tabots (replicas of the Ark of the Covenant) from churches to ceremonial bathing pools. Experience the hypnotic rhythms of kebero drums, the chanting of deacons, and the splash of holy water blessing. Afternoon festive feasting with the local community. Overnight at Asmara hotel.
Day 4: Keren & the Northern Highlands
Drive to Keren via the escarpment road with stunning valley views. Visit camel and livestock markets. Explore the Italian and British war cemeteries from WWII — Eritrea was a major theater of the East African Campaign. Visit St. Maryam Dearit in its baobab tree sanctuary. Overnight at Keren.
Day 5: Qohaito & Adulis — Ancient Kingdoms
Journey to Qohaito archaeological site — ruins of a pre-Aksumite city dating back to the 5th century BCE with the remarkable Safira Dam still functional after 2,500 years. Continue to Adulis, the ancient Red Sea port of the Aksumite Empire where ivory, obsidian, and slaves were traded to the Roman world. Overnight at Massawa.
Day 6: Massawa & Dahlak Islands
Boat excursion to the Dahlak Archipelago, an uninhabited coral paradise with 200+ islands. Snorkel in crystal-clear water teeming with tropical fish. Visit a traditional pearl-diving community on Dissei Island. Beach barbecue of fresh-caught Red Sea fish. Overnight at Massawa.
Day 7: Return to Asmara via Ghinda
Scenic drive back to Asmara via Ghinda, an agricultural town in the lush eastern escarpment known for citrus orchards. Afternoon free time in Asmara for last exploration and shopping. Farewell dinner at Asmara’s best restaurant. Overnight at Asmara hotel.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to Asmara International Airport. Option to extend to Ethiopia, Djibouti, or Sudan.
