Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Minsk to Brest
Scenic train journey from Minsk to Brest (3.5 hours). Afternoon: orientation tour of Brest — pedestrian Sovetskaya Street with its gas-lamp lighters in 19th-century uniforms, the 1,000-year-old city’s historic center, and the confluence of the Mukhavets and Bug rivers. Evening: dinner at a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Brest.
Day 2: Brest Hero Fortress
Full day at the Brest Hero Fortress — the site of the most legendary defense action of WWII’s Eastern Front. On June 22, 1941, the fortress garrison of 9,000 soldiers was surrounded within hours of the German invasion. They held out for 32 days with no supplies. Walk through the Kholm Gate (bullet-scarred), see the 100m “Courage” monument, visit the haunting ruins of the White Palace and the fortress cathedral, explore the comprehensive museum covering the defense, the occupation, and the partisan movement. Afternoon: continue to the Berestye Archaeological Museum — a 13th-century wooden town preserved under glass, discovered during construction in the 1970s. Overnight in Brest.
Day 3: Belovezhskaya Pushcha — Primeval Forest & European Bison
Full day at Belovezhskaya Pushcha — Europe’s last primeval lowland forest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning 150,000 hectares. Visit the Nature Museum, walk among 600-year-old oak trees, see European bison in semi-wild enclosures, and visit the Viskuli government compound where the USSR was formally dissolved in December 1991. Visit the Grandfather Frost estate (Belarus’s Santa Claus). Lunch at a forest restaurant featuring game meat and wild mushrooms. Return to Brest. Overnight in Brest.
Day 4: Return to Minsk — Departure
