Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Bandar Seri Begawan — The Sultanate
Arrive BSB. Day 1: afternoon introduction — Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Royal Regalia Museum. Gadong Night Market. Day 2: Kampong Ayer water village, Jame’Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, and Brunei Museum. Sunset river cruise. Overnight in BSB.
Day 3: Temburong — Into the Rainforest
Full-day Temburong National Park: speedboat through mangroves, longboat up the Temburong River, canopy walkway climb. Lunch at riverside lodge. Afternoon jungle trek and waterfall swim. Return to BSB. Overnight in BSB.
Day 4: Brunei to Miri — Across the Border
Drive to the Brunei-Sarawak border. Cross into Malaysia and arrive in Miri, the gateway to Sarawak’s natural wonders. Afternoon: visit the Grand Old Lady — Malaysia’s first oil well (1910) — and the Petroleum Museum. Explore the waterfront and Miri’s seafood restaurants. Overnight in Miri.
Day 5-6: Gunung Mulu National Park — UNESCO Caves
Fly to Mulu, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Two days exploring some of the world’s most spectacular caves. Day 5: Deer Cave — the world’s largest cave passage — and Lang Cave. At dusk, watch the bat exodus: 3 million wrinkle-lipped bats spiral out of Deer Cave in a formation visible for kilometers. Day 6: Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave, where you can swim in the underground river. Canopy skywalk through the rainforest. Overnight at Mulu lodge.
Day 7: Miri — Niah Caves
Fly to Miri. Day trip to Niah National Park — the Great Cave where 40,000-year-old human remains were discovered, one of the oldest in Southeast Asia. Walk through the cave on a plank walk with birds’ nest harvesters overhead. Return to Miri. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Miri.
Day 8: Depart Miri
Morning at leisure. Transfer to Miri Airport.
