Itinerary

Day 1: Dhaka to Srimangal — Journey to Tea Country

Morning departure from Dhaka by private vehicle to Srimangal (5 hours), the tea capital of Bangladesh. As you leave the chaos of Dhaka, the landscape transforms into a patchwork of emerald-green rice paddies, banana groves, and eventually the rolling hills of Sylhet Division covered in a carpet of tea bushes. The air becomes noticeably cleaner and cooler — Srimangal’s climate is often called “the air-conditioned corner of Bangladesh.” Arrive by afternoon and check into the National Tea Resort, a charming 4-star property set within a working tea estate. Afternoon orientation walk through the surrounding tea gardens, watching tea pluckers in colorful sarees moving through the neat rows of bushes, their baskets balanced expertly on their heads. Day 2: Lawachara National Park — Hoolock Gibbons

Early morning entry into Lawachara National Park — a 1,250-hectare protected semi-evergreen forest and one of Bangladesh’s most important wildlife habitats. The morning chorus of birds is spectacular: racket-tailed drongos, green imperial pigeons, and the haunting call of the Oriental pied hornbill. This is one of the last refuges of the endangered Western Hoolock Gibbon, Bangladesh’s only ape species. With your naturalist guide, walk the forest trails listening for the gibbons’ distinctive whooping calls that echo through the canopy at dawn. With luck, spot these acrobatic primates swinging through the treetops. The forest is also home to capped langurs, rhesus macaques, barking deer, and over 250 bird species. Walk the canopy observation trail for a treetop perspective of the rainforest. Afternoon visit to nearby Manipuri tribal villages, where the Manipuri community has preserved their unique weaving traditions, music, and distinctive culture for centuries. Day 3: Seven-Layer Tea & Tea Estate Tour

Morning tour of a working tea estate to understand the complete tea production process — from leaf plucking (only the top two leaves and a bud) to withering, rolling, fermentation, drying, and grading. Bangladesh produces over 90 million kilograms of tea annually, most of it in the Sylhet region. The estates are largely unchanged since British colonial times, with charming bungalows and factories from the 19th century. Afternoon visit to Neel Kantho (Nil Kantho) tea stall in Srimangal town, famous for its legendary seven-layer tea (shat rong cha) — a mind-bending creation where different densities of tea, milk, and spices create seven distinct colored layers in a single glass without mixing. The layers range from pale green to deep amber, each with a subtly different flavor. It’s a unique Bangladeshi culinary art form that must be experienced to be believed. Evening walk through Madhabpur Lake, a serene forest-fringed lake surrounded by tea gardens where migratory birds gather. Overnight at National Tea Resort.

Day 4: Lala Khal River & Sylhet Exploration

Morning drive to the Lala Khal River, a stunning waterway known for its color-changing properties — the river appears turquoise-blue in the dry season and emerald-green during the monsoons, fed by underground springs from the surrounding hills. Board a traditional wooden boat for a peaceful cruise through the winding river, flanked by dense forest and tea gardens. The crystal-clear water reveals the river’s sandy bed, and kingfishers dart from overhanging branches. Afternoon drive to Sylhet city (1.5 hours), the spiritual capital of Bangladesh. Visit the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (1271-1346), the Sufi saint who brought Islam to Sylhet, where devotees offer prayers among clouds of burning incense. Explore the sylvan tea estates on the outskirts of Sylhet. Evening drive back toward Dhaka, stopping en route for a farewell dinner at a roadside dhaba featuring authentic Bengali village cuisine. Day 5: Depart Dhaka

Morning transfer to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for departure. Take with you the memory of waking to gibbon calls in the misty forest, the taste of seven-layer tea, and the serene beauty of Bangladesh’s emerald tea country.
