Overview
Conquer Mount Kinabalu (4,095m), the crown jewel of Malaysian Borneo and Southeast Asia’s highest peak between the Himalayas and New Guinea. This 3-day, 2-night expedition follows the popular Timpohon Trail through diverse ecological zones — from lush lowland rainforest to alpine meadows — before a pre-dawn summit push for spectacular sunrise views across Borneo.
Day 1: Kota Kinabalu — Kinabalu Park HQ (1,563m)
Pick up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and drive approximately 2 hours through scenic countryside to Kinabalu Park Headquarters. Check in at the park, register with Sabah Parks, and meet your private mountain guide. Spend the afternoon exploring the Mountain Garden and Botanic Trail to acclimatize. Overnight at a nearby lodge in Kundasang with Mount Kinabalu views. Dinner provided. (Lunch, Dinner)
Day 2: Timpohon Gate — Laban Rata Resthouse (3,272m)
After early breakfast, transfer to Timpohon Gate (1,866m) to begin the ascent. The 6 km trail climbs through oak and chestnut forest, then transitions to mossy cloud forest with rhododendrons, pitcher plants, and wild orchids. Rest stops with shelters every 500-700 meters. Reach Laban Rata Resthouse by mid-afternoon. Hot dinner, sunset views from the mountain, and early bedtime to prepare for the summit attempt. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 3: Summit Push — Low’s Peak (4,095m) — Return
Wake at 2:00 AM for a light supper before the final 2.7 km ascent. Climb wooden steps and granite slabs by headlamp, reaching Sayat-Sayat checkpoint (the last water source) and continuing above the treeline. Arrive at Low’s Peak summit by sunrise (approximately 5:30-6:00 AM) for panoramic views spanning the Crocker Range and South China Sea. Descend to Laban Rata for a second breakfast, then continue down to Timpohon Gate. Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu, arriving by late afternoon. Receive your summit completion certificate. (Breakfast)
