Speedboat from Lungi Airport to Freetown. Afternoon: Cotton Tree, National Museum, waterfront. Welcome dinner of groundnut stew and fresh barracuda. Overnight Freetown.
Day 2: Bunce Island & Freetown
Morning boat to Bunce Island — the 17th-century slave fortress, the “Door of No Return,” one of the most powerful sites in the Atlantic world. Afternoon: Fourah Bay College (founded 1827, West Africa’s first university), Leicester Peak panoramic views. Overnight Freetown.
Day 3: Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Morning drive to Tacugama: 100 chimpanzees in forest enclosures, guided tour, conservation story. Overnight Tacugama eco-lodges — forest sounds, chimps settling for the evening. Dinner from the sanctuary’s organic garden.
Day 4: Banana Islands — Paradise on the Atlantic
Morning drive to Kent, speedboat to Banana Islands. Check into beachfront cabin. Snorkeling on coral reefs, visit to Dublin village (freed-slave history, colonial church ruins), swimming, and a fresh lobster dinner on the sand at sunset. Overnight Banana Islands.
Day 5: Departure
Morning swim, boat to Kent, drive to Freetown. Speedboat to Lungi Airport for departure.
