Day 1: Ushuaia
Arrive in Ushuaia. Transfer to your hotel. Afternoon to explore: walk the Beagle Channel waterfront, visit the Museo del Fin del Mundo, or ride the Train at the End of the World into Tierra del Fuego National Park. Evening welcome briefing. Overnight Ushuaia.
Day 2: Embarkation — Ocean Victory or Ocean Albatros
Afternoon embark your X-BOW expedition ship. The revolutionary hull design reduces pitching in heavy seas by up to 50%—your Drake Passage crossing will be notably more comfortable. Explore the ship’s facilities: panoramic observation lounge, science center, two restaurants, gym, and your private-balcony cabin. Sail the Beagle Channel. Welcome dinner as the sun sets over the mountains of Tierra del Fuego. Overnight at sea.
Days 3-4: Drake Passage in Comfort
Two days crossing the Drake. The X-BOW design smooths the notorious Drake ‘shake’ into a gentler motion. Onboard program: lectures from the expedition team, citizen science projects (collect phytoplankton samples, observe seabirds), photography masterclasses, and time in the panoramic lounge watching albatross soar at eye level. The ship’s science center features interactive displays on Antarctic ecology. Cross the Antarctic Convergence. The first icebergs appear—blue-white sentinels on the horizon. Overnight at sea.
Days 5-8: Antarctic Peninsula — Four Days of Discovery
Four full days exploring the Antarctic Peninsula, with the Intrepid difference: smaller Zodiac groups (max 10-12 per guide), longer landings, and a focus on immersive, educational encounters.
Highlights of the Peninsula exploration:
• Cuverville Island: The largest gentoo penguin colony on the Peninsula. Walk the snow among thousands of nesting pairs.
• Neko Harbour: Step onto the Antarctic continent proper. Watch the glacier calve enormous blocks of ice into the bay.
• Paradise Bay: Arguably the most beautiful anchorage in Antarctica—glaciers cascade from every direction into mirror-calm water. Zodiac cruise among sculpted icebergs.
• Brown Bluff: An extinct volcano with Adélie and gentoo penguin colonies at its base, framed by towering rust-red cliffs.
• Deception Island: Sail into the volcanic caldera. Walk the black sand beach (warmed by geothermal activity). Visit the abandoned whaling station. Take the Polar Plunge!
• Optional kayaking: Paddle through brash ice among penguins and seals—an entirely different perspective on the icescape.
Each evening, the expedition team hosts recaps and previews tomorrow’s plan in the lecture theater. Overnight in Antarctic waters (4 nights).
Days 9-10: Drake Passage Return
Cross back to South America. Final lectures: the Antarctic Treaty, climate change impacts, and how to be an Antarctic ambassador. Share photos with fellow explorers. Farewell dinner with the captain and crew. Overnight at sea.
Day 11: Disembark Ushuaia
Arrive in Ushuaia. Disembark after breakfast. Transfer to airport.
