Day 1: Asunción
Arrive Asunción. Afternoon city tour: Palacio de López, the Costanera, and a tereré tasting. Welcome asado dinner. Overnight Asunción.
Day 2-3: Chaco Pantanal Wildlife
Two days deep in the Paraguayan Pantanal along the Río Negro. Boat and walking safaris: caimans, capybaras, howler monkeys, jabiru storks, hyacinth macaws, and with luck, the elusive jaguar. Night spotlighting for nocturnal species. Visit Mennonite Filadelfia between excursions. Overnight Pantanal lodge + Filadelfia.
Day 4: Pilcomayo National Park
Pilcomayo National Park: RAMSAR wetlands alive with caimans, marsh deer, and 300+ bird species. Walk the esteros boardwalks. Afternoon Chaco War history at Fortín Toledo. Overnight Asunción.
Day 5: Jesuit Missions UNESCO
Travel to the UNESCO World Heritage missions of Trinidad and Jesús de Tavarangue. Walk the haunting red-stone ruins, stand on the famous ‘Mission’ film staircase, and learn about the Jesuit-Guaraní utopia. Overnight Encarnación.
Day 6: Iguazú Falls — Devil’s Throat
Cross to Brazil for Iguazú Falls. The Brazilian-side panorama of 275 waterfalls with the Devil’s Throat at center stage. Walk the catwalk into the spray for the ride of a lifetime. Toucans overhead, rainbows through mist, the roar of a planet’s worth of water. Overnight Ciudad del Este.
Day 7: Departure
Transfer to Foz do Iguaçu Airport or return to Asunción. Paraguay: discovered.
