Day 1: Manaus to Careiro — Meeting of the Waters

Morning pickup in Manaus. Drive to the port and board a speedboat heading up the Rio Negro. The first highlight comes quickly: the Meeting of the Waters, where the dark Rio Negro meets the sandy Rio Solimões in a sharp line that extends for kilometers. Continue to Careiro village on the south bank. Transfer by van through the floodplain to the boat landing on the Mamori River, then continue by speedboat to your jungle lodge. Afternoon canoe trip into the flooded forest — spot squirrel monkeys, three-toed sloths, and the magnificent blue morpho butterfly. Night caiman spotting.

Day 2: Jungle Trek & Canoe Exploration

After breakfast, a guided jungle trek into primary forest. Your guide shows you the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) — tap it and watch the latex flow out. Identify medicinal plants: copaiba oil (anti-inflammatory), andiroba (insect repellent), and cat’s claw (immune booster). Learn about the symbiotic relationships that make the Amazon the world’s most biodiverse ecosystem. Afternoon: canoe deep into the igapó (flooded forest), where you paddle among the treetops in the rainy season — an utterly surreal experience. Try your hand at piranha fishing. Day 3: Indigenous Village Visit

Full-day excursion to visit a riverside indigenous community. Travel by motorized canoe upriver, passing the Anavilhanas Archipelago — over 400 islands forming the world’s largest river archipelago. At the community, learn about cassava cultivation and processing (the Amazon’s staple crop), participate in traditional craft-making, and witness a ceremonial dance. Lunch with a local family — fresh fish, farofa (toasted cassava flour), and exotic Amazonian fruits like cupuaçu and bacaba. Afternoon free to swim in the river (safe, no piranhas in this section) and interact with the villagers. Return to the lodge.

Day 4: Wildlife Safari & Night Walk

Pre-dawn canoe for the best wildlife viewing of the trip. This is when the rainforest is most active — howler monkeys roar in the distance, macaws fly overhead, and capybaras (the world’s largest rodent) emerge along the riverbank. After breakfast, a longer jungle trek focusing on wildlife tracking: look for tapir and jaguar footprints, identify bird calls, and observe the leaf-cutter ant highways that are visible everywhere. Afternoon: try to spot the legendary pink river dolphins. Night jungle walk — a completely different world emerges after dark, with glowing fungi, large spiders, tree frogs, and the red eyes of caimans in the water.

Day 5: Sunrise & Return to Manaus

Dawn canoe for a final immersion in the rainforest’s morning symphony. After breakfast, transfer back to Manaus. Visit the Teatro Amazonas once more — having experienced the jungle, you’ll see the opera house with new eyes, understanding the incredible wealth the rubber boom extracted from this region. Transfer to airport. Five days wasn’t long — but you’ll feel the Amazon in your soul forever.
