Grenada: 6-Day Spice Island Discovery — Waterfalls, Chocolate & Grand Anse

Grenada: 6-Day Spice Island Discovery — Waterfalls, Chocolate & Grand Anse

Welcome to Grenada, the “Spice Island” — a fragrant paradise where nutmeg, cinnamon, and cocoa scent the tropical air. This 6-day journey takes you beyond the famous Grand Anse Beach into the island’s lush interior, exploring working spice plantations, organic chocolate factories, cascading waterfalls, and an underwater sculpture park that’s among the Caribbean’s most extraordinary dive sites.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND). Transfer to your beachfront resort on Grand Anse Beach — two miles of powder-white sand and turquoise water. Welcome rum punch, orientation, and sunset beach walk. Overnight at Spice Island Beach Resort or similar.

Day 2: Island tour of Grenada’s interior. Visit Annandale Waterfall, a 10-meter cascade surrounded by tropical gardens where local divers plunge from the top. Continue to Grand Etang National Park & Forest Reserve, centered around a 36-acre crater lake in an extinct volcano. Hike the rainforest trails, spotting Mona monkeys and the endemic Grenada dove. Visit the Grenada Chocolate Company, one of the world’s few tree-to-bar organic chocolate makers. Lunch at a hillside restaurant with panoramic views.

Day 3: Morning visit to Concord Falls — three cascading waterfalls (the first easily accessible, the second and third requiring guided hikes through spice groves). Cool off in natural swimming pools. Afternoon tour of a working nutmeg processing station in Gouyave — see how Grenada’s “black gold” is harvested, dried, and graded. Visit the nutmeg museum and spice market.

Day 4: Marine adventure day. Morning snorkeling at the world-famous Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park — Jason deCaires Taylor’s haunting collection of life-sized figures installed on the seabed, now encrusted with coral and teeming with marine life. Afternoon catamaran sail along the west coast with stops at secluded coves. Beach BBQ lunch. Watch for dolphins and sea turtles.

Day 5: Explore historic St. George’s, one of the Caribbean’s prettiest harbor towns. Visit Fort George (1705) for sweeping views over the Carenage horseshoe harbor. Browse the market square for spices — buy bundles of cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, mace, and vanilla beans at a fraction of international prices. Afternoon free at Grand Anse Beach. Farewell dinner featuring Grenadian oil down — the national dish of breadfruit, salted meat, callaloo, and coconut milk.

Day 6: Final Caribbean breakfast. Transfer to airport. Depart with bags full of spices and memories of the Spice Island.
