Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Arrive Reykjavik — Arctic Welcome

Transfer to your hotel. Evening: explore Reykjavik’s cozy winter charm — the Christmas lights may still be up, cafés serve hot chocolate with a view of snowy mountains, and the city glows under the potential aurora sky. First Northern Lights hunt after dark. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 2: Golden Circle & Borgarfjörður

Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, Gullfoss — the Golden Circle in winter splendor. Continue to Borgarfjörður: Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, where water emerges from lava fields. Visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Aurora hunt in the evening. Overnight in West Iceland.

Day 3: Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Full day exploring Snæfellsnes. Kirkjufell mountain — the most photographed in Iceland. Snæfellsjökull glacier-capped volcano. Djúpalónssandur black pebble beach. The dramatic cliffs of Arnarstapi. Aurora hunt under the dark skies of the peninsula. Overnight on Snæfellsnes.

Day 4: South Coast — Waterfalls & Glaciers

Drive along the south coast. Seljalandsfoss (walk behind if conditions allow), Skógafoss, and Reynisfjara black sand beach. Visit the Skaftafell area of Vatnajökull National Park for a glacier viewpoint. Evening aurora hunt in the dark skies of the south. Overnight near Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

Day 5: Jökulsárlón & East Fjords

Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon — icebergs float serenely in the morning light. Diamond Beach — ice chunks on black sand. Drive through the dramatic East Fjords, where steep mountains plunge into the sea. Aurora hunt. Overnight in East Iceland.

Day 6: Lake Mývatn — Winter Wonderland

Cross the highlands to Lake Mývatn. Explore the geothermal areas: boiling mud pools at Hverir, Grjótagjá cave, Dimmuborgir lava formations. Soak in the Mývatn Nature Baths — steam rising into the cold air, snow-covered lava fields all around. Aurora hunt. Overnight near Mývatn.

Day 7: North Iceland & Akureyri

Visit Goðafoss, the “Waterfall of the Gods” — stunning in its winter coat of ice and snow. Explore Akureyri, Iceland’s colorful northern capital. Drive back towards Reykjavik through the highlands. Final aurora hunt of the trip. Overnight in Reykjavik.
