Itinerary Highlights
Day 1-2: Cartagena — The Walled City
Arrive Cartagena. Two days exploring the UNESCO walled city: San Felipe Castle, Getsemaní street art, Palace of the Inquisition, sunset on the city walls, and a Rosario Islands day trip with snorkeling. Overnights in Cartagena.
Day 3: Tayrona National Park — Caribbean Jungle Meets Sea
Drive 4 hours east to Tayrona National Park — where the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the world’s highest coastal mountain range, plunges into the Caribbean. Tayrona’s beaches are legendary: Cabo San Juan, Arrecifes, La Piscina — golden sand backed by tropical jungle, with massive boulders scattered in the turquoise water. Hike through the jungle (2 hours) to reach Cabo San Juan, passing howler monkeys, toucans, and giant blue morpho butterflies. Swim, snorkel, and relax in one of Colombia’s most beautiful places. Overnight near Tayrona.
Day 4: Minca — Mountains & Coffee
Drive to Minca, a mountain village at 650m in the Sierra Nevada. The cooler air is a relief after the coast. Afternoon: visit a small organic coffee farm — the Sierra Nevada produces exceptional coffee, and the small-scale organic methods here are a contrast to the mass production you’ll see in the Coffee Triangle. Hike to Pozo Azul, a series of natural swimming holes in the jungle with crystal-clear water. Overnight in Minca.
Day 5: Minca to Coffee Region
Drive back to Santa Marta for a flight to Armenia/Pereira. Afternoon: arrival at a traditional coffee finca in the Quindío region. Sunset coffee tasting overlooking the hills. Overnight at the finca.
Day 6: Cocora Valley & Salento
Full day in the Valley of the Palms — hike through cloud forest beneath 60m wax palms, Colombia’s national tree. Afternoon in Salento: brightly painted colonial town, artisan shops, trout lunch. Overnight at the finca.
Day 7: Coffee Farm to Bogotá
Morning coffee tour: from cherry to cup, hands-on experience on a working finca. Afternoon flight to Bogotá. Evening: farewell dinner in Zona G. Overnight in Bogotá.
Day 8: Departure
Morning: Gold Museum or Monserrate. Transfer to airport.
