Day 2: Bissau Markets & Museums
Morning exploration of Bandim Market — West Africa’s largest open-air market. Visit the National Ethnographic Museum’s Bijagós collection. Afternoon visit to a baloba (traditional animist shrine) to understand Guinea-Bissau’s syncretic religious practices blending animism, Catholicism, and Islam.
Day 3: Speedboat to Bubaque — Bijagós Heart
Speedboat to Bubaque Island. Explore Bubaque town, the administrative center of the Bijagós. Visit the local museum. Afternoon at Bruce Beach, a pristine stretch of golden sand. Evening: traditional Bijagós music and dance performance by local youth.
Day 4: Orango & Matriarchal Society
Day trip to Orango Island. Visit a traditional matriarchal village where women are the heads of household, control land, and propose marriage to men. Observe sacred animist ceremonies if permitted. Canoe through mangroves. Afternoon: speedboat back to Bissau.
