Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Tórshavn
Arrive Vágar Airport. Transfer to Tórshavn. Afternoon walking tour of the capital: Tinganes, the old town (Reyn), and Skansin fortress. Evening welcome dinner.
Day 2: Lake Sørvágsvatn — The Floating Lake
Full-day hike to Trælanípan, the cliff overlooking Lake Sørvágsvatn (also called Leitisvatn). At 63 meters above sea level, the lake appears to float impossibly above the ocean — one of the world’s most famous optical illusions. The hike is moderate (3-4 hours round trip) with constant jaw-dropping views. Overnight Tórshavn.
Day 3: Vestmanna Bird Cliffs by Boat
Morning: drive to Vestmanna for a 2-hour boat tour along the towering bird cliffs, home to thousands of puffins, guillemots, razorbills, and fulmars. The cliffs rise 600m straight from the sea. Afternoon: hike Klakkur mountain above Klaksvík for panoramic views over the northern islands. Overnight Klaksvík.
Day 4: Viðareiði & Cape Enniberg
Drive to Viðareiði, the northernmost village. Hike the challenging trail up Villingadalsfjall (841m) for views of Cape Enniberg — the highest vertical sea cliff in the world at 754m. The summit offers a 360-degree panorama of six northern islands. Overnight Tórshavn.
Day 5: Slættaratindur Summit & Gjógv
Conquer Slættaratindur (880m), the Faroes’ highest peak. On a clear day, you can see the entire archipelago from the summit — all 18 islands spread across the North Atlantic. Afternoon: visit Gjógv’s famous gorge and Kirja hamlet. Farewell dinner in Tórshavn.
