Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Dakar
Welcome to Senegal! Transfer to Novotel Dakar. Afternoon orientation drive through the Plateau district — the Presidential Palace, Independence Square, and the Grand Mosque. Evening welcome drink at a rooftop bar overlooking the Atlantic. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 2: Goree Island & Dakar Markets
Morning ferry to Goree Island. Guided tour of the House of Slaves, the Fort d’Estrees, and the historical museum. Walk the artists’ quarter to see paintings and sculptures. Return to Dakar for lunch. Afternoon at the Sandaga Market — one of West Africa’s biggest, selling everything from textiles to traditional medicine. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 3: Pink Lake & Lompoul Desert
Morning at Lac Rose. Watch salt harvesters at work and learn about the lake’s extreme salinity (comparable to the Dead Sea). Float in the pink waters. Continue to Lompoul Desert. Camel trek into the dunes for sunset. Dinner with live drumming at the desert camp. Overnight in tented camp.
Day 4: Saint-Louis — The Colonial Capital
Morning departure for Saint-Louis. Cross the Faidherbe Bridge onto this UNESCO-listed island. Walking tour of the colonial architecture — Governors Palace, Cathedral, and the historic Hotel de la Poste (where airmail pilots like Saint-Exupery stayed). Afternoon calèche (horse-cart) ride through the fishing quarter of Guet Ndar. Overnight in Saint-Louis.
Day 5: Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary
Morning boat excursion through Djoudj, the third-largest bird sanctuary in the world. From November to April, over three million migratory birds stop here — pelicans, flamingos, cormorants, and the rare Arabian bustard. Afternoon at leisure in Saint-Louis to explore its galleries and cafes. Overnight in Saint-Louis.
Day 6: Touba & Return to Dakar
Visit Touba, the spiritual heart of Senegal. See the magnificent Great Mosque (exterior only for non-Muslims) and the library of Sheikh Amadou Bamba. Visit the nearby market. Afternoon drive back to Dakar along the coast. Farewell dinner at a restaurant overlooking the ocean. Overnight in Dakar.
Day 7: Depart Dakar
Morning visit to the African Renaissance Monument for final photos. Transfer to airport with memories of Senegal’s warmth and color.
