Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Livingstone — Victoria Falls
Welcome to Zambia, the heart of wild Africa! Airport pickup and transfer to your lodge near Victoria Falls. Afternoon guided tour of the Zambian side of Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya — “The Smoke That Thunders”), one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. At 1,708 meters wide and 108 meters high, it’s the world’s largest sheet of falling water. Welcome dinner overlooking the Zambezi River. Overnight in Livingstone.
Day 2: Livingstone — Falls & Wildlife
Morning: walking safari inside Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park — the only national park where you can see white rhinos on foot with armed rangers. Afternoon: thrill-seeker’s choice — bungee jump from the Victoria Falls Bridge (111m, optional), gorge swing, or helicopter flight over the Falls (optional). Sunset cruise on the Zambezi River with hippos, crocodiles, and spectacular sunsets. Overnight in Livingstone.
Day 3: Zambezi Whitewater Rafting
Full-day whitewater rafting on the Zambezi River below Victoria Falls — consistently rated one of the world’s best one-day rafting trips. Navigate Grade 5 rapids through the Batoka Gorge, with names like “The Overland Truck Eater” and “Oblivion.” Calm pools between rapids for recovery and cliff-top views. This is the ultimate African adrenaline day. Overnight in Livingstone.
Day 4: Transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park
Scenic flight to the Lower Zambezi (or road transfer). Arrive at your luxury safari lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River. Afternoon canoe safari — silently paddle past elephants drinking at the river’s edge, hippos surfacing nearby, and crocodiles sunbathing on sandbanks. One of Africa’s most intimate wildlife experiences. Overnight in Lower Zambezi.
Day 5-6: Lower Zambezi — Canoe & Walking Safaris
Two days of varied safari activities. Dawn canoe safari with mist rising off the river and elephants crossing channels. Walking safaris with expert guides to track lions and leopards on foot. Game drives through the floodplains to spot massive herds of buffalo and the park’s famous wild dogs. Night drives with spotlights for nocturnal wildlife. Sundowners on a Zambezi sandbank. Overnights at safari camp.
Day 7-8: South Luangwa — Walking Safari Capital
Fly to South Luangwa National Park, birthplace of the walking safari. Two days of the most authentic safari in Africa: dawn walks tracking big game on foot with one of Africa’s best guiding teams, game drives through the park’s famous ebony groves, leopard sightings (South Luangwa has one of the highest leopard densities in Africa), and night drives where spotted hyenas and genets emerge. Overnights at a bush camp.
Day 9-10: South Luangwa — Bush Camping
Move to a remote fly camp deeper in the park. Sleep in canvas tents with the sounds of Africa around you — lions roaring, hippos grunting, hyenas whooping. Full day walking safari with a picnic lunch under a sausage tree. Track lion pride movements with your guide. Learn bush skills: animal tracking, spoor identification, and medicinal plant uses. Overnights at fly camp.
Day 11: Kafue National Park
Transfer to Kafue National Park, Zambia’s largest and oldest park — the size of Wales. Afternoon boat safari on the Kafue River for aquatic wildlife, including the elusive sitatunga antelope. Game drive through the Busanga Plains, one of Africa’s greatest wetland systems. Overnight at Kafue camp.
Day 12: Kafue — Busanga Plains
Full day on the Busanga Plains, a vast seasonally-flooded grassland. Spot massive herds of red lechwe, puku, and roan antelope. The Busanga lions are famous for hunting in the open plains — a behavior rarely seen elsewhere. Hot air balloon safari at dawn (optional, seasonal). Farewell bush dinner under the stars. Overnight at Kafue.
Day 13: Depart Lusaka
Game drive en route to the airstrip. Fly to Lusaka for your international departure. Twalumba (thank you), Zambia!
