Itinerary Highlights
Day 1: Arrive Muscat
Welcome to Oman, the Jewel of Arabia! Airport pickup and transfer to your hotel. Evening walk along the Muttrah Corniche with views of fishing dhows and the harbor. Visit the bustling Muttrah Souk — one of the oldest in the Arab world — for frankincense, silver, and Omani halwa. Welcome dinner at a waterfront restaurant. Overnight in Muscat.
Day 2: Muscat — Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque & Old Town
Morning visit to the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque — one of the world’s largest, with its stunning Swarovski crystal chandelier and the world’s second-largest hand-woven Persian carpet (4,343 square meters). Continue to the Royal Opera House, a masterpiece of contemporary Islamic architecture. Afternoon: explore the Bait Al Zubair Museum and Old Muscat with its Portuguese forts (Jalali and Mirani). Overnight in Muscat.
Day 3: Wadi Shab — Emerald Pools & Waterfalls
Drive south to Wadi Shab, one of Oman’s most spectacular wadis. Hike through the dramatic canyon past turquoise pools and date palm groves. Swim through a narrow keyhole into a hidden cave with a cascading waterfall — one of Arabia’s most magical natural wonders. Continue to the Bimmah Sinkhole, a stunning limestone sinkhole filled with emerald-green water. Overnight at Sur coastal town.
Day 4: Ras Al Jinz — Turtle Reserve
Explore the coastal town of Sur, famous for its traditional dhow-building yards where wooden ships are still crafted by hand. Visit the Sur Maritime Museum. Evening at Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve — witness endangered green turtles nesting on the beach under the stars (seasonal, best May-October). Unforgettable wildlife encounter. Overnight at Ras Al Jinz.
Day 5: Wahiba Sands — Desert Camp
Journey to the Wahiba Sands, a vast sea of golden dunes stretching to the horizon. Visit a Bedouin family in their traditional home, share cardamom coffee, and learn about desert life. 4×4 dune bashing across the orange sands. Watch the sunset from the highest dunes, then settle into your luxury desert camp. Stargazing in one of the darkest skies in Arabia. Overnight in Wahiba Sands.
Day 6: Nizwa — Cultural Heart of Oman
Drive to Nizwa, Oman’s ancient capital. Visit the impressive 17th-century Nizwa Fort with its massive circular tower and ingenious defense systems. Explore the traditional Friday goat market (if timing allows) and the silver souk. Afternoon at Bahla Fort (UNESCO), one of Oman’s oldest and largest forts. Overnight in Nizwa.
Day 7: Jebel Akhdar — The Green Mountain
Ascend Jebel Akhdar (The Green Mountain, 2,000m+), part of the Al Hajar mountain range. Walk through terraced rose gardens — the source of Oman’s famous rose water. Visit ancient villages clinging to the mountainside: Al Aqr, Al Ayn, and the abandoned village of Wadi Bani Habib. Spectacular canyon views. Traditional Omani lunch with mountain views. Return to Muscat for farewell dinner. Overnight in Muscat.
Day 8: Depart Muscat
Morning visit to the Al Alam Palace (exterior) and the National Museum of Oman. Transfer to Muscat International Airport. Ma’a salama!
